Using an inline filter when kegging

I always transfer roughly six gallons into my conical, so my keg is full before the conical is empty. I tend to brew a lot of hoppy beer and like to have a little extra for hop absorption. That being said, the total volume of the filter is very minimal, I'd say close to a shot glass worth of...

Boil kettle condenser - no overhead ventilation needed

I definitely get a smell from my condensate. Smells like a gross corn smell to me. I just assumed it was DMS precursors being condensed. The smell was strong enough to me that I went from draining into a five gallon bucket on my first use, to draining outside ever since.

Using an inline filter when kegging

I use one for transferring out of my conical and into my keg. While I can push through with some CO2 pressure, I usually don't have to, gravity is enough. I hook mine up to the blow off of my conical and onto the keg and use naturally occurring CO2 from the fermentation to actively purge the...

Gas line through keezer collar ....help!

I use the same bulkheads as day_trippr but without the gas posts. You can always just use a male flare fitting screwed onto the bulkhead, but the gas posts make it much more convenient if you need to move things around.

New England IPA "Northeast" style IPA

I'd def prefer to use this in my conical over a keg just because of how easy it would be to install and remove. I use a Spike CF10, and the dip tube is quite a bit larger than those found in corny kegs which may pose a problem with fitting.

    Universal poppets

I bought some corny kegs off of a guy not terribly far from me for stupid cheap. They all needed complete rebuilds though. I went with universal poppets from chicompany.net and have no complaints. I haven't had to replace the o rings on the poppets yet, but I buy all my o rings from mc master...

Pump Cleaning - Chugger Stainless Steel Head

I recirculate hot (150*F) caustic through my kettle, hoses, and counterflow chiller immediately following transfer to my fermentor. I do this for however long it takes me to clean everything else up from brew day. Afterwards I flush with fresh water and recirculate to completely rinse the...

    Replace Beer Lines After Sour?

From everything I've heard from people that are experienced in using brett, a thorough cleaning and sanitizing regimen should be enough. That being said, I always bottle my brett beers. I enjoy drinking them slowly, as they continue to change over time. I despise bottling, but this is one of...

To those that participate or used to participate in competitions

I've entered three competitions, received a ribbon in all three, even winning a BOS and getting to brew my recipe with a local brewery. That was three years ago and I haven't entered a competition since. I really felt like the feedback was all over the map and not really helpful. I am not...

Maryland 15G Spike BIAB Setup Good to Go!

Sorry to those who have tried to contact me. I usually receive email notifications when I get alerts here, but I didn't this time. All PM's replied to and I will check back here daily from now on!

    Which Chugger

Honestly, the input to the propeller area is so small that I can't see 1/2" fittings and hose being that much of a detriment. Couple that with the fact that there aren't nearly as many 3/4" fittings readily available to us, as homebrewers, as there are 1/2". I happened to be cleaning my pump...

Hornindal Kveik is blowing my mind

I will be boiling a kettle sour here shortly and will be pitching OYL's Hornindal strain to ferment it out. I'll be harvesting the yeast before adding my fruit additions to keep the strain as clean as possible. Not that I use it very often, but has anyone fermented a beer with lactose yet...

Maryland 15G Spike BIAB Setup Good to Go!

BUMP! Make an offer if interested. I'd like to see this go to a good home. Also willing to sell chiller by itself, or the kettle without the grain basket for anyone looking to just use it as a boil kettle.

Maryland 15G Spike BIAB Setup Good to Go!

Pics of the basket and temp probe. Unfortunately I don't seem to have any brew photos. Lately I brew by myself a lot so I don't chronicle a lot of it other than temp, gravity, and pH measurements.

Maryland 15G Spike BIAB Setup Good to Go!

I will PM you today with a shipping quote! I am in southern Harford County. I live very close to Ale Craft in Bel Air if you have ever been there. Yes, I do have basket photos which I will upload shortly. For a temp probe, I used a small 1/2" NPT threaded RTD temp probe from Auber in a T...

Maryland 15G Spike BIAB Setup Good to Go!

I have recently upgraded my brewing equipment after buying a conical fermentor. I went with a CF10 due to the small difference in price to the CF5. I basically purchased everything you see here in a larger size. All of this equipment is very well taken of and has been used for 25-30 brews...

First time racking to keg, have I left too much head space?

Just curious, as I may be misunderstanding, but why did you wait three days to add the sugar to the keg? And, what made you decide to use six ounces of corn sugar? I've only carbed in a keg once, but I used 2.5 ounces and I was over carbed for a NEIPA

Isolated Yeast (Tree House): How to Identify and Characterize?

Yea I use Conan probably more than any other yeast, with 1318 as a very close second. I usually pitch as close to 0.44 mil cells/ml/degree Plato as I can get with online calculators. This is my first time ever having an issue with it, although I usually don't use Giga Yeast. It was just what I...

    CO2 tank: inside or outside

I'm using an over/under fridge/freezer so not exactly the same, but I have a 20# bottle on the outside. Freezer is hops storage, fridge is kegs (usually 3), random bottles and yeast storage. I decided to use the bottle outside to save on space, but also because I bought a dual regulator and I...

Isolated Yeast (Tree House): How to Identify and Characterize?

Anybody have a 'best' temp for esters from S-04? Long story short I pitched Conan in my house IPA Saturday. Brand new unopened GigaYeast from MoreBeer and no change in gravity 24 hours post pitch. So considering I've been following this thread and planned on keg conditioning with CBC-1 anyway...
