Electric BIAB and Nylon Voile Experiment

What I've done, and it seems to work okay, is to make a tube out of SS screen, like a kettle filter. I put it in between the bag and the kettle and it acts as an overflow pipe. This, and keeping the flow rate down helps. The one time I scorched my element is when I didn't have this pipe and I...

    eKeggle Recirculation Port?

I put mine in the lid. I put the QD camlock on the outer edge of the lid and then piped the interior return to the center from inside (makes sense?) because the lid is dimpled in the center with a handle too. I use a small pump as you mention and I just stick it right on the kettle valve with...

The Brewmasters: Brett Ratcliff - Roseville Brewing Company

The interview has some great information. Thanks for the time to do this. But, sorry to be critical, the opening paragraph really needs an editor's touch. There are run on sentences and poor use of punctuation, which for me, really distracts from the good interview which will follow.

    Home brewing in Japan

New (ish) homes should have 200v service. I can't speak for apartments, though. You will get a bit of a drop in wattage since it's 200 and not 240. I brew electric and love it. Very few electric brewers here.

    Beer Alchemy Dead Space Question

Sorry you've been orphaned! I'm surprised, are there no other Alchemy users, or they just don't have any problems and never come to this forum? Your thinking is right, I believe. BA doesn't have the details for losses like some other programs, I think. You have to do the math yourself and then...

    Home brewing in Japan

The two points you mentioned pretty well sum up the law. The community experience here is that as long as you don't sell it and aren't too flagrant about your brewing (annoy your neighbors, for example), the authorities (tax department) is bothered by it. They understand the occasional...

    Home brewing in Japan

You will occasionally see them on Yahoo auction. You can check with some liquor stores as well and see if they have the older style chuuhai kegs. Those are cornies without a pressure relief valve. I have some of those and I simply updated the lids with a purchase from Aliexpress for a couple of...

Thinking about switching to e-BIAB with Brew-Boss

I'm in the process of switching back. I started with BIAB, then 3v electric. Now I want to go back to BIAB, but with more control over the mash and my schedule. I'll be doing a recirculating mash and looking forward to ordering the Brew Boss. I think I'll be able to stretch the mashing time...

    Cold Crashing????

Nope. Perfect. A good true cold crash will be just under or at freezing for a day.

    Home brewing in Japan

Im pretty sure you can get idophor here at one of the online brew stores. Most the guys I know use starsan, which is not so available. Your fridge and controller will be fine. As for propane adaptor, you might check with the Okinawa brewers on Facebook. I know they figured out a work around for...

    No room for hop bag

Actually, keep the hops in for the full boil time. Pull the hops when you flame out. Put the chiller in. You really don't need to boil your chiller to sanitize it.

    Danstar Belle Saison Rehydration confusion

No, don't pitch it at that higher temp. One cup of water will cool down fast enough. You don't want the wort at 83-93 when you pitch. Let the yeast slurry cool off and then pitch it in 70 wort.

    sanke kegs??

I just did the math and it seems to me that 1-2 days is indeed 24-48 hours.:D

    cleaning kegs with water only

I don't want to get into a pissing war with you, but I am not wrong. Charile Talley knows more about chemistry than either of us. http://hwcdn.libsyn.com/p/3/9/0/390da96899933961/bbr03-29-07.mp3?c_id=1452161&expiration=1413364906&hwt=1251ac6b260343736002fcb1a1445782 He starts at 11 minutes...

    cleaning kegs with water only

Uhm, no. Not when you add them to 5 (five, FIVE) gallons of water. Chemist Charlie Talley, who developed Starsan, recommends this as an alternative sanitizer. Do your due diligence before making such replies. https://www.homebrewtalk.com/f11/charlie-talley-five-star-chemicals-notes-brewcasts-58928/

    One last Cold crash Question

Well, use your visual imagery skills. Cold crashing takes hours. It's a slow process. Whatever air might get sucked it is not moving fast, not so fast that it would probably mix up the heavier layer of co2 and sneak into the beer. And, after all, it's just beer, not plutonium. Relax.

    One last Cold crash Question

I don't think there will be that much air moving around that you'll need to worry about.
