    BIAB vs 3 vessel setups

I did figure out a plus today with my 3V. My MT was maxed w 41# and FV. I decided to pull about 5.5g from the strike to get a good fit. I stuck it in my seldom used HLT. I’m glad I had it today. This FV mashing is saving me tons of time. The Wilser bag w my manifold just is so easy to clean. No...

    BIAB vs 3 vessel setups

$$ doesn’t make great beer. We can all agree on that. Only thing I hate is being an outdoor brewer. Can HERMS it, FVBIAB, but I still think about a single vessel indoors though.

    BIAB vs 3 vessel setups

This is 3 vessel brewing. I love this hands on brewery. I know it inside and out. If I started now, I’d have a single vessel. This one will have to do me, I’m not changing now. Gotta go, mashing into 41# of grain. She does have her advantages. 😎

    Rye flavour

I think people translate distilled rye to beer maybe. Distilled rye is always marketed as spice. I do think that rye in spirit is spice/hot. I’ve never had that in brewing from rye. Bread and caraway seed is what I get. The body and thick foam it adds is impressive. I remember drinks lots of...

    Warm Fermented Lager Thread

My all time favorite is 802. I do like strains that can handle the higher temps. Right now I can brew at ambient that runs high 50’s to low 60’s at my unheated shop. Ambient makes lagers easier. I only do 2 lager batches. 20g in spring and 20g in the fall. WF lagers have made it easier no doubt.

    Warm Fermented Lager Thread

Wish I liked 34/70, super easy yeast to work with. Glad I like S-189, just as easy to wok with. I will take 830 over any dry.

Cooler Mash Tun - Mega Size, what size manifold

My tun is 120qt, I used 1/2” and have never had an issue. Slots are 3/8” apart if I remember correctly. I used my portable band saw and worked great. First one was copper and moved to thin wall stainless. Added a Wilser bag and have moved to FVBIAB. Works awesome and cleanup is a breeze. 👍🏼

    Fermenter buckets lid

I still use buckets occasionally. When I do I just go old school and never cold crash in them. Other than that, no issues.

    Fermenter buckets lid

Yes, I would lager in the keg. My normal practice anyway. You shouldn’t get much in the keg. Couple of pints and it will be clear sailing. In the future you could just wrap the seam with electrical tape. I did that on a few of my buckets that didn’t seal great. Works pretty well actually...

    Fermenter buckets lid

I would wouldn’t transfer to a carboy. The lid seal isn’t perfect, but not horrible. The issue would be if you planned to cold crash it. Then the seal is a big deal. I’d let it go and keg it. If you’re bottling, I’d just bottle it. I think the O2 risk of transferring isn’t worth it. Let them...
