when to add cacao, coffee, nibs, etc

Coffee for me is 3-4oz, course cracked, and added 3days before package. I’ve tried every way possible and this renders the best results.
  3. Dog House Brew

    What are you drinking now?

Might be the best I’ve ever made. That’s any beer I’ve made. Really a great beer, look forward to popping it out at Thanksgiving.

  5. Dog House Brew

    What are you drinking now?

My first time having this. Man I live in an IPA desert. What I find is that all these beers taste almost the same. It’s good, but give me my sorta WC any day. At $24 for 4 pack 😳 I’ll keep making my own. ✌️

    First Wort Hopping

I’ve brewed my same Kolsch recipe probably 30 times. My Crystal hop addition used to be only FW. The last 5 batches have a 20min addition. I like the small 20min for the aroma. My lagers now get FW and a small 20min addition. FW to me has always just been a smooth bitterness. Maybe say more...

    What are you drinking now?

I’ve been hammering my Kolsch and 189 lager. I’ve reached IPA burnout. These beers bring you back. I’ve sat on my last two kegs. Every pour is like a wow. Wow how good it is, and wow, why have I strayed from these great styles? Good on ya, thing of beauty.

    Yeast starter

I try to be let my pitch warm but not always possible. I’ve removed crashed yeast from the fridge, and then pitched cold into my wort many times. I’ve never had any fermentation issue either way.

    Batch size

Fill 2 or 4 kegs. 12-22g for the batch size

    What are you drinking now?

Sometimes I think breweries try too hard to elevate. Misses the mark for a great brewery.

Citra Mosaic Strata Crystal Saaz Simcoe, Nugget, Nelson, Motueka, Chinook, EKG 5 is a punishment that no person should endure!

    Anchor closing?!

Maybe bring something new to the party as well.
  14. Dog House Brew

    What are you drinking now?

I always do a 20g batch of my Kolsch recipe and use 189 in 10g. Wish GigaYeast was still around. That’s where the 021 came from.
  15. Dog House Brew

    What are you drinking now?

Third pour looks more like it.
  16. Dog House Brew

    What are you drinking now?

First keg pour of 021 Kolsch. Man I love this yeast. Hate the day when something happens and I lose it. Love a Kolsch w Crystal, love that hop. Has that subtle lemon character. Beats the crap out of the split with S-189. Learned to never underestimate the addition strain makes. S-189 yeast is...

What changes made your beer better?

On the back side of your spigot, stick a stopper with a piece of bent tube. Like the curved top of an auto siphon. You turn it to escape the trub. Also use a pickup tube in your boil kettle that meets the “corner” of your kettle. Should help some of you trub issues. I still win comps using...

Gardening: My Tomatoe and Pepper Progress

Planting my peppers and tomatoes tomorrow. Paper mulch works great, just wish it were more economical.

Is it just me or are bottled conditioned Homebrew better than kegged?

Bottled Imperial Stout, Saison, and my Tripel are better than kegged. My Kolsch, lagers, and the rest I keg. I do find in those styles the bottles are better. Kegging hoppy beers now that I learned how to pressure transfer, crash, and all the extra PIA steps. Bottling those big beers is nice too...
