    Bucket versus Carboy for secondary

Thank you for the info. I'm completely relieved!

    Bucket versus Carboy for secondary

Yes, thank you. My first thoughts were "why bother?". What about when dry-hopping of adding extra spices, etc.

    Bucket versus Carboy for secondary

Thank you for this information, Eric. This is great news as I wasn’t looking forward to transferring. Does this apply for all double-fermentations? Even the ones where you might add ingredients (dry hopping, etc.). The sediment doesn’t release any off-flavors after the second week then? Here is...

    Bucket versus Carboy for secondary

I am a beginner brewer and am about to start my 3rd batch of beer. This time I wanted to do a secondary fermentation (The brick warmer holiday red just arrived). Instead of a carboy, I'd rather get a 6.5 gallon bucket with a lid and spigot as it's easier to use and flexible. It should be...

    Bottle cappers & no carbonation?

Yes, I do stir. I just bottled another batch and added a little extra sugar (around an eighth of a teaspoon) which might be a terrible idea or a really good one - I'll know in 10 days!

    Bottle cappers & no carbonation?

Thank you Wally & Island Lizzard. You actually pre-empted my next question. I used recycled Lagunitas bottles which has an opening like the middle bottle (I've attached a picture). Maybe that's not the best seal? Of course I'm not ruling out "human error", but do you know for sure that these...

    Bottle cappers & no carbonation?

This super helpful, thank you. I'm going to drink the evidence and start bottling the next batch tomorrow with a little more diligence!

    Bottle cappers & no carbonation?

Well I loved traditional hand pumped English ales with no carbonation so I don't mind. Lessons learned...

    Bottle cappers & no carbonation?

Thank you for the advice. This looks like an accident waiting to happen and I'll probably just drink them with minimal carbonation the way I drink traditional British ales!

    Bottle cappers & no carbonation?

Thank you for this advice, Island Lizard. Capping seems so easy though, the devil is in the details! I've also noticed that when the bottle is capped properly, there is an indent from the capper on the top of the cap, so next time I'll be able to tell if it's on right. I'm considering taking the...

    Bottle cappers & no carbonation?

I brewed 5 gallons of the block party amber ale that came with the kit and just used the corn sugar packet that came with it (I threw it out so can't remember how much). It's super helpful to know that the bottle capper isn't a dud - I probably didn't use it properly as I managed to pop a bottle...

    Bottle cappers & no carbonation?

Are all bottle cappers created equal? After ordering a starter kit from Northern Brewery I bottled my first batch of included Block Party Amber two weeks ago along with Kveik yeast as my apartment is at a minimum of 80 degrees. I cracked my first one open yesterday. It is drinkable but there is...

    Is Fermentation Complete?

Holy Moley - 95! Kveik is like the Navy Seals of yeast! I'll leave it for another week to be on the safe side. Maybe even 10 days as some brewers say it gives it extra depth and lets the flavors settle... Frankly I can't wait to sample my first batch!

    Is Fermentation Complete?

How long can I let the brew sit after it stops bubbling as a safety measure before it decays? I've heard some brewers say they leave it up to a month though given my room temp that might not be a good idea as my apartment is over 80 degrees!

    Is Fermentation Complete?

Thank you AJ. I remember you were very helpful in my last post too. How long can I let the brew sit after it stops bubbling as a safety measure before it decays? I've heard some brewers say they leave it up to a month though given my room temp that might not be a good idea as my apartment is...

    Is Fermentation Complete?

I just invested in a Northern Brewer Homebrew Starter Kit I’m brewing my first batch of Block Party Amber Ale. I switched the kit yeast packet with Kveik Ale Yeast as my apartment his warm and it has been fermenting at about 80 degrees since July 31st (5 days at time of writing). The airlock...

    Fermentation temperature

It sounds that if I use that yeast at 80 degrees fermentation (probably closer to 85 degrees in the bucket) I won't need a thermostat or constant air conditioning. Did I get that right? I'm excited if I that's the case and can start right away...

    Fermentation temperature

Sorry to keep asking so many questions, but you seem to know your yeasts! This yeast says Wide range of fermentation temperatures between 25-40°C (77-104°F) Very high optimal range of 35-40°C (95-104°F) Flocculation is very high producing clear beers without Does this mean I don't have to...

    Fermentation temperature

This is brilliant! 39 dollars solves all the problems and I don't need to stick anything in the fridge or run up a huge air conditioning bill! Thank you catalanotte. I'm ordering one now...
