    5 vs 10 gallon,inside vs outside

I just started brewing outdoors and its worth it. My stove has a 12500BTU "Power Boost"burner and I bet it takes every bit of an hour to get 6gallons boiling. While I have not timed it, my 65000btu propane burner does it in less than 20. I did my last mash inside while heating my sparge water...

    Last minute bitter critique?

I’m hoping to get a last minute critique on my PM bitter recipe. I should be brewing in a few hours. I’m looking for a good balance between slightly hoppy and malt flavor with a little toastiness out of the Victory. It should fall somewhere between special and extra special bitter depending on...

    PM ESB recipe?

How does this look for a bitter recipe? I have a full pound of Victory from a recipe I ended up not using. I have never used it so a pound could be overkill. Any suggestions on the hop schedule, grains, yeast, etc? Style: Extra Special/Strong Bitter (English Pale Ale) TYPE...

    Keg for keggle?

What kind of keg am I looking for to convert to a keggle? Is it only a Sanke keg that is stainless? Or are all ½ barrels SS? Before I go crawling around scrap yards searching for the cheapest possible deal on a keg I would like to be 100% on what I’m looking for exactly.

Advice on the most economical way to start all grain brewing

I use a round 5 gallon rubbermaid cooler for my HLT. It's 18$ at Wally World. For a mash tun I have also been using a 5 gallon rubbermaid but will be upgrading to 10 soon. Check the DIY section for the conversion. It has part numbers and everything.(Very easy to do). So for less than 80$...

    Northern Brewer vs. Midwest

Have never ordered from NB but Midwest has been great so far. I use Midwests catalog as sort of an ingredient bible to plan my upcoming brew and drool at what I need to order next. Although they are runniing a 7.99$ shipping special at NB right now so I may have to order from them.

HBT dictionary...or commonly misspelled brew terms

How is "Fuggle" pronounced? Is it foogle, or is it pronounced like juggle? Another one I have heard is Muntons dry yeast pronounced moontons?? If Foogle is proper, can I call a bubble a ****le and juggle, joogle? :D

    Lightest Extract?

One thing to keep in mind before you order bulk DME for PM is that you may do one PM and end up doing AG for your next batch. I just did my first PM 2 weeks ago and realized how easy it actually is, and am doing my first AG tomorrow. I have a 3lb bag of DME standing by incase I get a really...

    how long does everyone secondary

I am no expert but I would not leave hops in for more than a week. I believe you can get a grassy flavor if left too long. As far as how long to secondary, I left a stout in for about 12 weeks and it was delicious. As long as it's done fermenting in the prmary, the secondary is for clearing...

    Ported Better Bottles

6gallon primary 5gallon secondary. If you get the ported version make sure you fill them with water before racking to make sure the spigot does not leak. I lost about 1/2 a gallon on my first brew that way. If I were to do it again I would spend the extra $ on something else like a good...

    First PM tonight

Well she is in the lagerater bubbling away at 65F. I went with 170F strike water without preheating the cooler and it ended up at 153F after adding the grains.(although it was just a quick check) BeerSmith was telling me 164.9F for strike water, and 168F for sparge. Next time I will follow...

    Bottling in Growlers

Now you guys have me worried. I am on my second use of a swing top growler. It carbonated great and made bottling a little easier. should I go wrap this bad boy in a garbage bag? I got mine from the local brewpub, but it is the same as the below link. http://morebeer.com/view_product/7968/
