    So who's brewing this weekend?

Superbowl day brewing a pre pro pils with locally grown 6row, polenta from a a still-functioning local mill, and cluster hops. Mt. Hood to finish.

Made my decision. Thanks for the input folks, and thanks to Spike. Super easy transaction and great communication. Exactly what I was looking for. Pumped for my superbowl brew day.

Another Brew Kettle Thread..... which one?

I email/chatted with a Spike employee yesterday and she said the V3s in 10 and 15 gallons were out of stock and that a final batch was coming in in Feb. I will write you guys directly to discuss. Thanks for responding.

Another Brew Kettle Thread..... which one?

Thanks for the info. Never heard of brewers beat so that's a new one. Will check it out. Almost pulled trigger on Spike but they were out of V3. Maybe not meant to be. So many choices......

Another Brew Kettle Thread..... which one?

Thanks. I didn't have BB on my radar. Once more company in a similar price range. I see they do have welded fittings. Good information.

Another Brew Kettle Thread..... which one?

Hey Folks- I'm a lurker but have been brewing about 20 years, mainly all grain since 2002 or so. I've been using converted keggles and Polarware Economy pots for years as I outfitted my simple brewery. I'm trying to upgrade, but not getting too crazy. I recently got my first pump (my back...

Comparing local 6 row to breiss 2 row specs

Riverbend? I've used their malts quite a bit. Good stuff. My bhe drops about 2 pts, and I have to set my mill a little tighter to account for smaller grain. Otherwise, I love their stuff. Unique and local.

    Anchor steam- which NB hops?

Me too! I love a cali common, and anchor steam was my favorite beer in the early days of commercial craft beer.

    Anchor steam- which NB hops?

Thanks. I've read many of the general descriptions and what not, and I've been using german nb for years (have over a lb in the freezer:) But digging through recipes you rarely see us or german nb specified, unlike ,say, us and kent goldings, or saaz, ect. You will also see anchor steam...

    Anchor steam- which NB hops?

Does anyone know if anchor steam uses german or us northern brewer hops? I've never used the American version and didn't realize they are different cultivars until some recent reading. If anyone can describe the difference between the two that would be helpful as well. Thanks!

    Wy2124 experience

Hello fellow brewers- I'm on my 4th Gen of wy2124 and pitched a healthy giant starter into a schwarzbier 4 days ago at 45, let it free rise to 52, and things are going great.....nice fermentation activity as planned and hoped for. Funny thing is there is no sulfur smell whatsoever in my...

Malt extract vs. full grain - which do you choose and why?

I don't see all grain as purism, just allows for many more recipe combinations to "make it your own". When I started brewing in the mid 90s extracts were pretty terrible. Now you have many more options and higher quality. I just received a few extract kits from nb as a present and am tempted...

    Starter from slurry question

Yes, using a stir plate. 1 cup 6 week old slurry and 1200 ml starter wort. Planned on stepping up to 1750 or so today. With ales I usually don't pay as much attention, but going for a clean helles I like lots of yeast, thus the effort. You live and learn. Still might go ahead and add fresh...

    Starter from slurry question

Well shucks. My historical approach would have been to pitch the entire slurry and just expect a lag time. In an effort to become more "precise" I have been living by calculators. They seem to make sense with fresh yeast feom wyeast, wl, etc., but slurry pseudoscience is pretty loose...

    Starter from slurry question

Tough topic with possibly no perfect answer......so I'm trying to salvage some 6-week old wy2124 for a helles planned for tuesday. I used Mr. Malty to determine my viability was only 20% and I needed 830 or so ml to reach my lager pitch rate. I don't have that much, so need to make a starter...
