    just received old yeast

I don't see the big deal. It's prior to the "best if used by" date. I've used plenty of WL packs/vials that were 3-5 months old (and older). I make a starter for all yeast and have never had one crap out on me. I even grabbed a 1-yr old pack of 530 for free and stepped it up and it performed...

Specialty IPA: Rye IPA Denny Conn's Wry Smile Rye IPA

Sounds great. Let us know how that works. I didn't read through this entire thread so it might be covered.

Specialty IPA: Rye IPA Denny Conn's Wry Smile Rye IPA

I didn't mean it was slowing, it just hit hyperdrive a decade or so ago and hasn't stopped since. I was on board from about 2006-2010, then I reclaimed my taste buds so I could enjoy other styles, mainly German lagers, Belgians, CAPs, and British ales. Super citrus hops aren't my favorite, so...

Specialty IPA: Rye IPA Denny Conn's Wry Smile Rye IPA

I've been brewing for 23 years and took an IPA hiatus for the past 10...... just got burnt out when the IPA rage was in full swing. I brewed the occasional session hop bomb to placate my neighbors/friends, but haven't put much effort into an IPA for years. I bit the bullet and decided to try...

    Thermobarrel

Thanks. The box did have brewcraft tape. It was also missing a couple pieces of hardware (for the false bottom) but my lhbs took care of that. The tun itself, however, was a little nicer imo than the other version I saw. Sturdier handles and a better lid anyway. Thanks again......about to...

    Thermobarrel

I recently purchased a 15 gallon Chapman thermobarrel, which I love, and noticed mine is different than the ones I see on line. I actually looked at a few in the shop and noticed the floor model was what I see on line, but the boxed versions appear "updated" with a new lid, false bottom, and...

Charlotte Area (Rock Hill, SC - Carolina Brew Supply) Grain Buy #1

I paid 47 bucks for my last sack of Rahr from AB and its 55 lb. Jess (the owner) will try to price match other places as well. My favorite homebrew shop for sure. Been buying stuff from AB since 1990s. One of the orginals and still going strong.

Blichman Beer Gun / Last Straw Bottle Filler

Not necessarily. I have 2 Co2 tanks, each with their own regulator. I also have a manifold with multiple valves in my kegerator that I can draw from (if one is open). You can also get a wye splitter with shutoff valve for a single regulator. I use 10 ft. of bev hose and pretty low Co2 pressure.

    Sorry, double post.

Blichman Beer Gun / Last Straw Bottle Filler

My Blichmann v2 works great. Bottle beer straight from keg all the time. The key is low co2 pressure.

That's good to hear. I thought about an aytosparge as well. Might be my next purchase. Cheers.

    Growing Hops in Charlotte

I also tried Willamette and Mt. Hood. Cascade definitely did the best. Hope to plant cascade and some noble-type hop this year if I can find one or 2 suitable for the higher elevations in NC. Good luck.

    Growing Hops in Charlotte

I grew Cascade in Raleigh for several years before moving back to the mountains. They did great. I would ask Jess at Alternative Beverage as he's been selling rhizomes for years out of Charlotte. Good luck.

Initial impressions of the Ss Brew Tech 10G Infusion mash tun

Thanks for the review. I went back and forth between ss and chapman. Went with the chapman because I like the 15 gallon size, but the ss seemed like an awesome product. I will say the false bottom in the chapman does let some grains through, but nothing excessive. A little larger holes than...

    Thermobarrel and no sparge

Hey folks- I sold my ice cube mash tun and retired my round rubbermaid to purchase a 15 gallon Chapman Thermobarrel. My local store (shout out for Alternative Beverage in NC) gave me a great deal and this tun is worth the price. I wanted to try a full volume no sparge mash and my first brew...
