Amount of yeast in 1 Liter starter made in growler

I should have added that I did not see a lot of activity in the growler(however it is a brown growler and I was using a flashlight behind it to check on it so take that for what it is). When I swirled the growler it did create some foam action on top but the layer wasn't thick like a nice...

Amount of yeast in 1 Liter starter made in growler

Simple question: How much yeast should appear in my gallon growler once the 1 Liter starter has finished its job on a 1.030 wort. I know I am a little light on the wort but that was a miscalculation of using LME compared to DME. I am literally tossing and turning wondering whether or not...

    Darkstar Burner 2 Issue...i think

The burner was fresh out of the box. Earlier in the thread figured out my issue. I have had very successful boils since then!

    My next sour beer...

Yeah, I was wondering that and also I was wondering how well it will clear up. I know the yeast I used are low flocculant yeast so hopefully when I cool this bad boy down it clears up a bit.

    My next sour beer...

Update: I decided to go with 2 lbs of raspberries instead of the cherries. Just put them into the beer today and a krausen has already formed! The sample I took a few days ago was very tart and I cannot wait to try the finished product!

    Secondary Vessel Question

I have a super sour brewing in my primary and initially I was planning on moving to a secondary for a cherry puree addition. However, I have a 6.5 gallon carboy and I have just under 5 gallons of beer in the primary. The headspace worried me and then it came to me; why can't I use 5 one gallon...

    Darkstar Burner 2 Issue...i think

When used correctly, it is fantastic! For the price and utility I am more than happy with my purchase.

    My next sour beer...

Just finished my sour brew today Grain bill was simple: 10 lbs base and 2 lbs wheat flakes Kettle soured with L.Plantarum to drop my ph to about 3.2 No hop boil for 45 min. Pitched Wyeast German ale yeast with a 2 liter starter to compensate for the low PH. I'm leaving it in the primary for a...

    Darkstar Burner 2 Issue...i think

You said it! I was standing there shaking my head at this thing wondering what I just spent $50 bucks on [emoji481]

How much acetic acid will l. plantarum create?

They really need a section on here labeled "I think I did something dumb" or "I'm an idiot." And with that preface, I began kettle souring my mash yesterday with l. plantarum caps and as I sat there today staring at what I was hoping to be quite the puckering sensation in a few weeks from now ...

    Darkstar Burner 2 Issue...i think

I can't day thank you enough! It turns out that the devil was in the detail...the detail I didn't bother to read. I followed your instructions and you were 100% correct! My sleep schedule thanks you for such a quick and helpful response!!! Extra Cheers to you!

    Darkstar Burner 2 Issue...i think

That makes complete sense. Should I light it up after I do the initial turns on both and then continue to open up the regulator and propane tank?

    Darkstar Burner 2 Issue...i think

I really had no idea that not following the steps so closely could have such an impact. I am a big griller and the system seems as simple as a standard home propane grill and therefore did not overly focus on the details of the starting procedure. I am about the do my quick 15 minute boil post...

    Darkstar Burner 2 Issue...i think

Just set up my burner today and was very excited to use it. It's been over an hour and my 6 gallon pot of water has yet to reach my strike water temp of 165. Its cold in Northeast PA, however I still cannot imagine that it should take this long to hit the strike temp with only 6 gallons of...

    Kettle Sour Question

So I am about to brew my first sour beer by kettle souring with L. Plantarum. I know it is basic knowledge that you need separate fermenters, tubing and other hard to clean pieces to avoid souring future non-sour beers. My question is, why would I need new equipment after kettle souring...

    I don't own a ph reader yet...

Thats a good point. I didn't even think of what masking different yeast may contribute.

    I don't own a ph reader yet...

Sometimes I forget that it hasn't always been overly scientific yet it has always been beer! Thanks for the suggestion, I may in fact go for a cheap one for now.

    I don't own a ph reader yet...

But, I was wondering if I tasted the kettle souring every 12 hours while the Lactobacillus to get my desired sourness, would that PH and sour character remain the same post fermentation? Still new here, but learning a ton! Thanks all!
