New England IPA "Northeast" style IPA

I know this post is going back in time a bit, but I’m about to buy a 60 ml syringe of the citra co2 extract from mass hops and use the whole thing in the dry hop. There’s a post on their website about how to use it in the dry hop…they suggest mixing with approximately equal parts high proof...

What temp did you dry hop at? And how long?

Yup, Denny’s. I’m going to try it out.

Anyone ever try wyeast 1450 for these beers? Supposed to be very flavor neutral like Chico, but have a big, soft, velvety mouthfeel. I’m thinking of trying it soon.

Nowhere near 3 times as much. Not even twice as much but not far off. The breweries I mentioned arent hurting in the budget department. Even if they were…they’d use spelt if it was that special/different. Again, I don’t dislike it. I just don’t think it’s really any better than other wheats.

I currently have two beers on tap with significant percentages of spelt, (30%) and id be lying if I said I could notice any difference from white wheat. Spelt is in fact wheat, with slightly higher protein levels. I have to assume that if it really, truly, brought something different to the...

Sometimes I do and sometimes I don’t. I just depends if I’m feeling lazy. When I don’t cold crash, I transfer the beer into the keg at the same temperature it was dry hopped at. In this case it was 59. I then immediately stick the keg into my Keezer which is set to 42. I put 30 psi on the keg...

I just recently made an all Citra beer and the 2021 YVH pellets smelled awful in the bag. It’s hard to say exactly how they translated into the beer, because I also used lupomax, cryo, and hop hash also from YVH. The Lupomax and hop hash smelled awesome. The lupo was 2020 but the hop hash 2021...

    Verdant IPA yeast best practices

I always pitch 2 full packs. Typical OG is 1.068-1.072. I don’t like underpitching. Pitch at 70, hold at 70 for 4 days, bump up to 71 for 3 days, 72 for 3 days, then drop to 60 for 24 hours. Dry hop at 60 for 3 days. Transfer, carb, serve. This yeast performs beautifully if you follow this schedule.

Think of carafoam/carapils as a C-2. They’re basically a crystallized malt with a lovibond of 2-3. C-10 and C-15 are pretty much the same exact thing, just with a slightly darker color and therefore a touch more sweetness. Mouthfeel contributions should be similar. Trillium often uses both...

Looks great. While not ideal, dextrose can get you to the 7.5-8 range. Also brewers crystals or even some dme. Lots of ways to get there.

Try some c-10, or c-15 in place of the carafoam or honey malt. Carafoam is barely noticeable at that percentage and with honey malt being 25L it’s a little dark for me. C-10 or C-15 is kind of like the middle point between the two of them, without the noticeable flavor and aroma contribution...

What is the recommended usage on that? Is it kind of like incognito in which it’s designed for the whirlpool, or more like the other extracts designed for bittering?

I’ve said it before but typically when breweries use cryo, incognito, lupomax, etc….they say so. If they’re saying 8 pound per barrel or whatever it’s most likely just t-90 unless otherwise noted.

Treehouse dry hopped this beer with over 8 pounds per barrel. It’s right in the description. I had a 4-pack and was delicious. Strait murky hop milk. https://untappd.com/b/tree-house-brewing-company-live-free/4506464

I’ve had a bunch of commercial beers with 586 and haven’t been that impressed. I know a lot of breweries and people are pretty excited about it, but I’ve yet to see what all the hype is about. Not saying it’s not good, just that I haven’t been blown away or anything. Perhaps Ill get some and do...

It’s listed as being able to be used up to 40%. While similar to carapils it’s not actually the same. I wouldn’t want to use more than 3-5% carapils. I’ve done 20% carafoam and it was great. This is an old Tonsmere (janish’s partner at sapwood) post where he uses 20% carafom and loved it...

Much more orangey in color than the usual super light pale straw color i shoot for. I used 8 oz of honey malt along with the aforementioned pound of lactose, and while it is sweeter than usual, it’s not tooo sweet for me. 12 pounds 2-row 2 pounds white wheat 2 pounds carafoam 8 ounces honey...

New England IPA "Northeast" style IPA

I have a beer I made recently with 1 pack of cosmic punch and one pack of verdant…I used a pound of lactose and had staring gravity of 1.082 and a final gravity of 1.026… so if you factor the lactose giving 8 points you’re looking at 1.074 down to 1.018 for about 75% apparent attenuation…and it...
