    Whats you favorite album cover

These two from Fotomaker (former members of The Rascals and The Raspberries) I liked to listen to, but not look at the covers. Yeesh!

    Chinook Based IPA

I know someone who brewed Northern Brewers Chinook IPA kit and I had a taste of it last week. It calls for (all Chinook) 1 oz @ 60, 0.5 oz @ 10, 0.5 @ 1 and 1 oz dry hopped. The stuff was excellent. Not rough or at all, which was what I was expecting. It was a very pleasant surprise.

Aug 12 HAN at Limestone Brewing Company - Plainfield, IL

The same group of brewers who met at Limestone Brewing last Thursday are in the process of establishing a new homebrew club. The next meeting is set for Thursday, September 9th at 7:00 pm at Limestone Brewing on Rt. 59 in Plainfield. We will be discussing specifics related to the club itself...

Poor students currently brewing 2 batches... tell me where we've screwed up!

Or you can use an auto-siphon (I have for 10 years now), ditch having to mix sanitizer in buckets, get a wall paper tray at the hardware store and mix up a small amount of sanitizer, dump your auto siphon, wine thief, tubes, hydrometer, etc. into the tray and go to town. <---- wall paper tray...

    Foam but no carbonation

Also - and this may not be the problem - check for any leaks in the 3/16" tubing. I had a tiny leak develop last weekend where the tubing met the barb on the faucet. The tubing had been on there for four years, had gotten worn and was leaking just enough to not be noticeable except at 20-30...

    Whirfloc vs Irish Moss

I used to use IM all the time, then gave Whirlfloc a try for the first time about 2-1/2 months ago. I've stuck with Whirlfloc b/c it doesn't have to be measured and, IMO, seems to be like 'IM on steroids'. I just seem to have more break material left behind and my beers seem clearer...

    Whats you favorite album cover

Okay, seriously - E Pluribus Funk by Grand Funk Railroad. The original vinyl cover back in 1972 when it was released was completely round and covered with a silver film to resemble a 12" coin.

    Whats you favorite album cover

I thought of that one, too. They DID sell it in the States (at least in my area they did) for while b/c I have it! But changed after the Tipper Gore types complained that their kids were bringing it home. Beatles 'White album'. It looks like this:

    So who's brewing this weekend?

No brewing this weekend, just drinking. And brewery maintenance. I brewed the last two Sundays in a row. Tomorrow I have a couple of carboys and kegs to get cleaned and sanitized for future use. Might brew again next weekend. If not, definitely the weekend after that.

White Labs WLP022 Essex Ale yeast

Last night I kegged my Three Cats Best Bitter which used WLP022. Spent 10 days in primary at @66oF and went from 1.052 down to 1.009. It didn't floc as much as a lot of English strains I usually use like S-04. WLP007 or WY1318. I usually get clear as a bell beers at racking with those. Not so...

    gelatin finings?

Lack of cold break causes chill haze. When a beer is chilled, the proteins partially precipitate and form a haze. As the beer warms up, the proteins re-dissolve. I use gelatin quite often. The proteins are attracted to it and attach t the gel. As it (the gel) falls, it drags the proteins with...

Need some help before I start my Oktoberfest

70oF is okay, but cooler temps in the low to mid 60's will make for a smoother, more lager-like beer. Plus, the act of fermentation produces heat - so if your room is at 70oF, the beer might be as high as 75oF. If you can swing it, I'd try the swamp cooler trick - basically place the fermenter...

    Cloudy Lager

The recipe in the book is a Doppelbock calling out an OG of 1.082 and a FG of 1.022-1.023. Yeast is either WY2308 or WY2124 and they've spec'd fermentation temps appropriate for those strains (47oF-52oF) with a diacetyl rest after 14 days. So, yours is close to being ready. What will clear it...

    I Hate Whole Hops!

Whole leaf whenever possible. I will NOT dry hop with pellets. They just don't provide the aroma I'm looking for compared to leaf. When I add them to a carboy, I use a sanitized funnel and wooden spoon, add a little at a time, then jam them in with the spoon handle. Now that I keg, I just...

Problems with Mesquite Smoked Chili Dog Lager

It's because you used a crappy Fenway frank and not a good Vienna Beef dog, as God intended it. East Coast hot dogs - yuck!:p

White Labs WLP022 Essex Ale yeast

Any update on this yeast? I've got a vial in my fridge that I'm itching to use.
