Anvil Brewing cooling system - anyone use yet?

That doesn't surprise me as that's what I've found with my Ballandkeg system. I use it to control the fermentation temps, but I transfer to my keg and cold crash it there. I only get a little extra sediment which comes out in the first glass or two of beer anyway.

Anvil Brewing cooling system - anyone use yet?

Any update on the cold crash? I ask because I have the same system from www.ballandkeg.com. I haven't had any need to cold crash with it, but I would imagine it would be difficult to get below the mid-40's with ice water only. I would think glycol at sub-freezing temps would be required to...

Anvil fermentor cooling system review and glycol chiller attempt

I'm using a styrofoam cooler with the lines run through the side as I mentioned above. When I was lagering last summer I needed to swap out 2 to 3 2-liter ice jugs per day. I'd usually put one or two in in the morning and then do one in the evening. As I've mentioned before, I don't have the...

Anvil fermentor cooling system review and glycol chiller attempt

I use one of those styrofoam coolers that come from Omaha Steaks. I punched holes in it for the silicone lines in and out of the cooler so I can leave the lid on. I only put a gallon or so of water in the bottom (3 inches) or just enough to cover the submersible fountain pump I bought from...

Anvil fermentor cooling system review and glycol chiller attempt

I don't use the Anvil system, but I use a similar coil from www.ballandkeg.com. With good insulation on my fermenter (a blanket wrap), I've been able to maintain mid-40's temps in the summer when my house is in the mid to high 70's. I go through two Ice jugs per day (2 liter jugs) to maintain...

    Boysenberry Blonde Ale Recipe Help!

As a base, use the Centennial Blonde recipe on HBT. Just made my second batch and it is delicious on its own. Use WLP001 yeast in my opinion. I use the fruit puree as well.

    Brew Jacket

Not even close, I've had trouble getting mine down to the low 50's when my place is in the mid to high 70's.

    Brew Jacket

I've had one for about a year. It is very slow to cool, like a full day if you don't have the wort down to the 60's before you put it in. Last summer I had serious issues getting it down to the low 50's to do lagers when my apartment was high 70's. I know they claim 30 degree temperature drop...

    If I understand Amarillo hops..

I keep Amarillo around most of the time. It is great in combination with something citrusy like Cascade.

Are closed transfers worth the extra effort?

Yes, absolutely improved my hoppy beers. You can also inject gelatin solution through the QD on your keg using a cheap plastic syringe without the needle attachment. The small nipple on the syringe fits tightly into my QD. I do that after I push the starsan out of the keg and fill on top of it.

What brand BIAB bag do you use?

I have a Brew Bag and a Wilser and have found the Wilser to be more durable. The Brew bag has developed small holes after 20 or so batches while the Wilser has not. Not really a big deal as the holes are small, but the Wilser is definitely more sturdy.

Review: Plastic bucket vs. conical stainless steel fermenter (w. ferm. data)

Yes if you go with a single 5 gallon keg you have to keep it to 3 to 4 gallon batches to allow for krausen. That's why I recommended two used kegs for cheap if you want to do larger batches. You can split 5 to 7 gallons between two kegs to do this.

Anvil fermentor cooling system review and glycol chiller attempt

Good review. I love Anvil stuff. I've been using a similar cooling coil from a different company because they make one that fits my Fermonster. www.ballandkeg.com I've been able to lager down in the high 40's quite nicely using ice jugs. I find that two liter ice jugs are better than buying...

Review: Plastic bucket vs. conical stainless steel fermenter (w. ferm. data)

Recent convert to keg fermenting and I am hooked. You can get two used kegs for half the price of a conical if you want to go cheap. Closed transfers are a snap.

No issue at all. A couple cups wouldn't be noticeable.

    Glycol chilling FastFerment?

The coil from ballandkeg comes with a blow off tube included so you are set for high gravity brews. You could pull it out and put in an airlock if you want, but I've had no need to do that. If you can put a reservoir in a fridge, it would keep you from having to change out ice jugs, although I...
