Brew Hauler...do you have one and do you like it?

Go to your favorite thrift store and see if they have any nice canvass bags from LL Bean, Landsend, etc... The work great are are next to free. OR Go to Aldi and buy one of their $1.99 bags. They look heavy enough to work just fine.

Homebrew in Bejing, China: test batch details and questions

A couple of years ago I spent three weeks in Bangkok teaching a class on transportation procurement. Nothing was better than after a long hot day than walking down to the Black Swan Pub and having a couple (or more) large pints of cold Tiger!:mug: Much, Much better than BMC

Mill while the water is heating. I mill directly into my mashtun. I average 22+ lbs of grain per 10 gal batch.

How much do you brew in total?

I brewed extract in 5 gal batches and it took about 2 hours start to finish. I now brew AG, but in 10 gal batches. It takes me about 4 to 5 hours start to finish, so the time per gallon is close to extract, but the cost is at least half.

What is your experience with peated malt?

When I use a peated malt I only use at most an once or two in a 10 gal batch. While I agree that it adds a interesting flavor to the beer, it really is not to style for a scotch ale. But, I never brew to style, I brew what I like to drink!

I feel like the high priest of fermcap....... I use 6 gal better bottles for my primary. I add about 10 drops of fermcap and I never need a blowoff. And I typically ferment 5.5 gals! It's also great in the boil. I boil 13 gal in a 15 gal pot, add about 20 drops, and never have a...

Should I cold crash this APA?

Cold crash, no secondary. I place my better bottle in the fridge for a couple of days. Yeast drops like a rock. I then rack directly to keg. I force carb, and a couple of days later I'm drinkin! Very clear drinkin at that.

I made a session beer by mistake

Yup, All I can figure was that when I measuring out what was supposed to be 22 lbs of grain for a 10g batch, I got distracted and shorted my grain bill by 3 to 5 lbs. Wonder of wonders, I LIKE the result! Much drier than I usually make, but the US-05 did not have to work as hard to...

Beer with a nod to tawny port??

That's what I did. Found about half a case of a 9% dopple-porter from 1995:drunk: Tastes very much like a port or sherry. AHS also has a great chocolate razz berry port kit that is wonderful!

    Exploring "no chill" brewing

Once a month my LHBS brews up a wort in thier pico system. About $30 gets you 5 gal of all grain wort. They fill your pail with wort that is about 180 deg F. You take it home and pitch the next day. Works great every time!
