What is a good dry yeast for porter?

My top three ideas were Nottingham, SO4 and S33, and I happen to have them on hand. I also have a few packages of the yeast that Brooklyn Brew Shop includes with its pre-packaged mixes, although I don't know anything about it. it seems fast-acting and clean-fermenting, and in general also seems...

    Brown Ale Disappointing

As some have noted, it might not be ruined at all; it just might need a little time to come into its own. Suggestion: don't even think about it for two weeks, then try it again, and compare your experience to what you describe on this thread. If it is still not satisfactory, give it another...

Brooklyn Brew Shop's Chamomile Blonde - Tips and Advice

Shout-out to Texas Brewing Inc. (https://www.txbrewing.com/) - I ordered my yeast last Friday morning, and it will be delivered by the end of today. Not bad at all, considering that there was a weekend in there, as well! :mug:

    Brown Ale Disappointing

This is purely a guess, but some Crystal 40(ish) in place of some of the others might have softened some of that bite.

    Trying to plan for failure.

In the future, I don't see any reason why you couldn't add some cold water to bring the temperature down. I've done it before (with 1-gallon batches) and it doesn't take much. you should be able to compensate with a slightly longer or harder boil, if you there are volume concerns; but in any...

    Beer with bacon?!

Brooklyn Brew Shop has quite a successful recipe for a Bacon Dubbel - it's not exactly my thing, but I might try it one of these days. I would guess that the lean, heavily-smoked bacon that is common in your region might be excellent for this. :) The recipe is in their book, Make Some Beer, and...

Just a simple, straight-up Hefeweizen - some qustions

Ha - typo! My "go-to" Hefeweizen is similar to what you describe, but for this one I was hoping to make it as "no-frills" as possible. Maybe I'll stick to my original plan and leave the wheat at 50%, after all; although I'm probably splitting hairs, here .

Just a simple, straight-up Hefeweizen - some qustions

LOL - BrewDay never happened, due to a lot of reasons - however, since I have everything I need and am waiting on some yeast to arrive for my Chamomile Belgian Blonde project: https://www.homebrewtalk.com/forum/threads/brooklyn-brew-shops-chamomile-blonde-tips-and-advice.664664/ I might as...

Brooklyn Brew Shop's Chamomile Blonde - Tips and Advice

I decided today to go ahead and delay BrewDay while I went ahead and ordered the S-33 yeast for this project. I have full confidence in the "stock" yeast that Brooklyn Brew Shop uses, especially for this general style of beer, as it has worked well in the past; however, since BBS told me that...

    Joe's Ancient Orange Mead

Since my last post in April of 2018, I had been keeping my mead safe in a dark corner, intending to check on it again around Christmastime. Unfortunately, I forgot about it even then, and didn't remember it until mid-February! In any case, we cracked one open. In the bottle, it looked...

Brooklyn Brew Shop's Chamomile Blonde - Tips and Advice

Good morning, Druman, and thanks for the kind words. I'd love to take credit for that awesome art, but all I did was find it and put it together with a little help from www.beerlabelizer.com. :mug:

    Brewers Best orange vs McCormick

He's talking about dried orange peel, not extract. Dried Valencia Orange peel is an essential ingredient in Blue Moon, according to the guy who developed the recipe for the original Blue Moon. I've always used McCormick, but some folks have mentioned the dried orange peel from Frontier as a...

    Show Us Your Label

Thanks, PB - I wish they all turned out as "right" as this one did, when it comes to matching the image with the beer. In this case, the gal there reminds me of The Beautiful Mrs. Tas, so it's a bonus. :mug:
