    IPA's getting FG down

dont exactly have pros or cons to each. corn sugar is 100% fermentable though, while cane sugar is not. cane sugar (table sugar, right?) might be like 95% fermentable, which might leave a slight sweetness, but probably nothing you can taste... i just am a huge fan of the IIPA style, and most...

    High Gravity Hell

not a big deal, you are barely 10 points higher on the gravity than you expected. just do what you were going to do if it was lower. personally, i almost always primary for 3 weeks, then secondary for one week. bottle conditioning- 3 weeks for tasty and 5-6 for really good. its not...

My color is too light...not sure why

yeah not really a big deal. next time, try the exact same recipe that the kit came with. but instead of crystal 20, use crystal 40L, and then see if the color is better or darker for you.

    Do hops affect hydometer?

Your hydrometer read way to high! Thats more than double what the recipe says it should be. You just made a beer that will be like 12% abv! What was the temp of the wort when you took the hydrometer reading? What is the boil volume and final volume of the wort? The size of the starter...

    Moth Attack!

Remember the recipe in Charlie's book where you add an entire chicken carcass to the brew pot?! You'll be fine! :rockin:

    IPA's getting FG down

As far as I undertand it, a pound of corn sugar is a normal addition to the IIPA style. Try that next brew day, will dry the beer out slightly and possibly help the yeast stay awake longer too. :rockin:

    The Lust for Apfelwein

    Help w/Pliny

you hit the target gravity, but then you added water. you thinned out the wort. you added water and diluted it, that why your gravity went down. it will still be a good beer, but you prob should have just stuck with the 5 gallons at .077. you lowered the ABV by adding water. the batch size...

Thinking about AG, but not much room...

you dont at all need the 3 tier system. 1 10 gallon converted cooler MLT 1 30qt (7.5 gallon) Brew Pot 1 Immersion Chiller (you dont even 'really' need this if you can fit the brew pot in a sink full of ice water) 2-3 5 gallon buckets from Home Depot for strike and sparge water and to...

    maple Syrup

I am making an attempt at a maple stout tomorrow. Charlie's book says 1 GALLON syrup per 5 gallons of beer. 1 FREAKIN GALLON! I actually went to whole foods and bought 4 32 oz bottles of grade B Organic Maple Syrup made by Whole Foods for freakin $18.99 each! Beersmith says OG 1.137 and...
