    American IPA Furious Clone?

UPDATE 11/30 Was at a good friend's wedding this weekend. Bottled a few and took them with me. A few of my guys have access to a neighborhood bar that has the Furious on tap regularly. They said the beer is very close, but they think Furious is a little more bitter. so +1 for a little...

Thoughts on this grain bill for an Imperial IPA

looks lke a lot of aromatic to me... lots of IPAs use vienna or munich, and I've had some success with special B- similar to Arrogant Bastard.. personally, i like my IPAs and especially IIPAs dry as hell. i've started mashing 150-151 and i'll throw in a half pound or pound of dextrose...

Stepping up to 10g batches- recipe conversion?

I almost always do 10g batches. double everything. it is just that easy. but also double the yeast. DOUBLE THE YEAST! especially if using dry yeast, they are super cheap anyways. if using wet yeast. make a huge starter 3-4 days in advance and pour half into each primary. DO NOT split a...

Estimated Gravity vs. Actual Final Gravity

its good if the FG is lower, isnt it? i always like higher ABV! i use BeerSmith, and it likes to tell me I should be happy with 75% eff, but i normally get a little higher. that to me means that I am beating the computer and its always good to beat the computer. up up down down left right...

    crusehdhose

my friend told me a 3/4" ball valve would create too much suction and crush my ss braid. but i had work to get done so i built it anyways. and it crusehd the hose.. now i have springs in the hose so it cant get crushed and it works fine. still scared to open it all the way though..

How much priming sugar per bottle?

LHBS sells 'priming sugar' packets. 5oz each. So i guess you could do 5oz divided by 48-52 bottles.. 28 grams in an oz. I suck at math.... 28 grams per oz * 5oz = 140 total grams? 140 grams divided by 48 bottles = 2.9 or round it off for 3 grams sugar per bottle? Anyone? But...

    American IPA Furious Clone?

I wanted so badly to brew me some Furious since its hard to find in Chicago, especially in bottles. Compared a bunch of recipes and ended up with this one. Since I cant get it in bottles and its off tap now in the city, I cant really remember exactly how it tastes or compares to what I ended...

Munich Dunkel AG - chainsaw brewing "death by dunkel"

Is it- 'mash in at 165' so you actually mash around 150 for 60 min? or- 'mash at 165 for 60 min'? :drunk:

Why mash at 150 deg. F?

sure i did a bad ass 10 gallon batch of Saison this summer. one 5 gallon primary with 3711 and one 5 gallon primary with 3724. i mashed the grain at 148 for 90 min. the beer turned out super dry and crisp. excellent compliment to the orange peel and ground corriander seed that went in the...

Good gravy - I left the stirring spoon in my wort

I did that my second AG batch ever. i wondered if the beer was really good, would i have to put the spoon in there next time i tried the recipe to guarantee the same flavor? no but seriously everythig was fine no off flavors, etc. :mug:

    High Gravity Hell

cool. do your thing, enjoy. i would say though that a longer time in primary is more important than a longer time in secondary. if you let the beer sit on the yeast cake for 2-3 weeks, the yeast is actively cleaning up sediment and clearing the beer. you would most likely get clearer beer...
