    Brew table recommendations

I know you said SS, but I have one of these and really like it: https://www.homedepot.com/p/Husky-52-in-Adjustable-Height-Work-Table-with-2-Drawers-in-White-HOLT5202BJ2/311742117 I love having the drawers and the adjustable height. I actually have two, one longer than the other. I store them...

Inkbird Quick and Easy Test Setup

I have an Inkbird PID, temp probe, junction box and SSR/heatsink. The PID is 100-240v AC, the SSR is 24-340V AC load with 3-32V DC. It looks like this: I have a few questions. I'm thinking I'll test this as a 240v setup since I've got a 240 outlet in my brewing area. I don't want to invest a...

    Blichmann BrewEasy Temperature Probe Placement

Yep, I have one Riptide that I love. Want a second, but they're on back order everywhere. Until I can get a second, I'm going to gravity feed from the MLT to the kettle, then pump with the riptide back to the MLT. I've seen people orient them vertically like that, but I've never seen it with...

    Blichmann BrewEasy Temperature Probe Placement

As a person just about to bring a K-RIMS rig online, I have a couple questions about your photo/rig? 1) What are the pinch valves for on your kettle and MLT output hoses? 2) Do you have any problems getting your pumps to prime with the input coming in from the bottom? I'm used to seeing the...

Value of brulosophy exbeeriments, others experience, myths and beliefs

Green font is new to me. I've been around here for 7 years.

Anyone else overwelmed by the amount of hops in IPAs and NEIPAs?

I would agree up to a point. Some people *love* overhopped beers and don't want "balance". In my opinion, proper "balance" is in the palate of the person drinking the beer. There is no right answer there, only what suits any particular person. I've had IPAs with so much hops it was like...

How long does your brew day take with your electric systems?

Here's a quick "back of the napkin" spreadsheet estimate of the minimum time I can imagine. This assumes you do everything on the brew day (vs adding minerals, measureing/milling grain etc ahead of time). Unless I cut corners, I think this is probably within 30 mins of the minimum:

Anyone else overwelmed by the amount of hops in IPAs and NEIPAs?

So many people seem to want to dictate what others should like. They don't like hazies, so they bitch about them and say they're defective and shouldn't be on the taps/shelves. Fruit in beer (pastry sours for example)? Blasphemy! A lot of cane-waving "get off my lawn" types around here. The...

Let's figure out an Abraxas clone

Do you think you need the lactose? I do a big BCBS style stout that usually has a similar FG....lactose would be way over the top IMO. Abraxas has never felt like a milk stout to me, but it's hard to tell with all that cinnamon.

    Blichmann BrewEasy Temperature Probe Placement

Assuming you're using silicone hoses and a decent flow rate, the temp won't change much on the very quick route from the kettle output to the mash tun. I tried to run wort through a silicone hose in an ice bath to chill one time and it had very little effect. That silicone is a very nice...

Question about using pineapple into a NEIPA...

Is that the enzyme that turns ham to mush? My son showed me a video....kinda creepy.

Value of brulosophy exbeeriments, others experience, myths and beliefs

In general I think they do a pretty good job. I have seen several tests where they chose a recipe that, in my opinion, might mask the results. One was hop related (maybe late boil vs flameout or something like that), but they used a recipe that didn't really feature hops that much. I remember...

Questions on beer gas (Nitrogen/CO2 mix) in a new keg

Wow, that's a lot of math....more than I want to do. Aren't the carbonation charts based off of gauge pressures already?

Anvil burner weak after winter hibernation

I was thinking the same thing as @day_trippr . I've had that happen to me, so I got in the habit of shutting off flow with the regulator before closing the tank valve. Then, open the tank valve, and then open the regulator to light. That's most likely the problem. You can also end up with a...

    Recommended Mash Recirculation "Device"

I just use a SS float ball that you can run a silicone hose through. It floats on the top of the mash and sort of whirlpools the liquid on top of the grain bed. It's basically the same as what comes with a Blichmann Autosparge.

    BIAB - Bag vs Basket?

I spent a lot of time planning an eBIAB rig, only to bail on it in the end. The conclusion I came to was that a basket seems cool, but there are some issues with it. First, as pointed out above, if you have open sides, if you recirculate, some of the water coming it at the top (maybe most/all)...

    water profile/water adjustment

I'm no expert, so I've found it easiest to just start with RO water and build up the profile I want. It costs me $0.30/gal, so about $3 for a batch of beer. I do some research for each new recipe that I do to try to figure out a good target profile (mineral content and pH). Then I use...

    Today I screwed up by...

I was brewing a NEIPA and my son and nephew wanted to learn about the process. I was showing them how I use the same hoist that's for lifting the brew bag to hang a bucket of grain when doughing in. That way I can stir with one hand and tilt the bucket of grain to pour it in with the other...
