    Lagers

I guess that was my thought......less steps...and nothing would get into a keg.....if venting was an issue, I could just pull the pin a couple times a day......would I need an airlock on the keg???

    Lager Secondary?

I'm attempting my first lager. Doing the Brooklyn Lager clone from the Dec 2011 BYO and using my ghetto Son of Fermentation Chiller (another post someday!). Recipe says that when fermentation is close to finishing (thinking 10 days or so) I'll do a d-rest for a couple days, and then lager. My...

    Lagers

Would it hurt anything to go straight from primary into a keg for lagering? I can fit a corny in my refrigerator, not sure about a secondary carboy....

    Fruit Beer watermelon wheat

The 21st amendment is great beer, mine is a similar color, and the watermelon flavor is about the same (get some in the finish but that's about it), the biggest difference is that mine is much more estery and clovey. Probably due to combination of my Bavarian Wheat yeast and fermentation temps.

    Fruit Beer watermelon wheat

Ok, I've been sampling my beers now for a week or two. First off, I really can't tell the difference between the ones primed with Dextrose and the 5 22oz bottles I did with a jolly rancher. Second, the watermelon flavor was great when I was bottling, but not that it's carbonated, I really...

    Fruit Beer watermelon wheat

Thanks for all the talk on this, my wife and I brewed this on March 19th, bottled a few days ago, can't wait to taste it! I used a MoreBeer American Wheat Kit, and Wyeast 3056 Bavarian Wheat Blend. Fermented at around 68 for two weeks, then racked to 5 cups (or so) of watermelon juice that I...

    Comments/Advice on IPA Recipe Change

You think it would be really out of place in an IPA style beer? I guess 1lb of 40 wouldn't be that expensive, just trying to use up what've I had extra for a few months.

    Comments/Advice on IPA Recipe Change

Brewing up an IPA tomorrow, recipe calls for 1lb Crystal 40L (steeping grains), but I'm trying to finish off some leftover grains that I have so I'm going to use .25lbs of Crystal 80 and 0.6lb of Crystal 120. Other than obviously being darker, probably outside style guidelines (not worried...

    Bell's Hopslam

    Bad Washed Yeast?

Really? Reading a lot of the threads on here, people have said they had success with yeast kept for a year! But yeah, something definitely wasn't right!

    Bad Washed Yeast?

I had a quart jar with some washed 1098 yeast in it from the beginning of Aug, I was going to use in a yeast starter, but when I opened it it smelled faintly of vinegar and had a weird gray layer on top of the yeast on the bottom. Anyone experienced this? Was I right to just dump it down the...

    Phenols from High Fermentation Temp?

I just got the results back from my first Homebrew competition. I entered three beers (two of which were not my best efforts, but all I had on hand to enter) with scores coming back as 29 (black ipa), 27(pumpkin amber ale), and 20(amber ale) for the three beers. All the judges mentioned...

Total panic with a Rogue Imperial IPA clone

Well it's been about 6-7 months now and the beer is quite drinkable. It does have a "hot" or "peppery" finish, but a couple of my friends think this is really interesting and nice. Anyway, I guess another testimonial to just waiting and letting the beer make itself drinkable!

Total panic with a Rogue Imperial IPA clone
