    Best change early on?

Quality-wise, I'd say going All-grain for sure - control over the whole process will give you the results YOU want and is quite a bit cheaper once you amortized the cost of the gear. Also, I'd say, getting a much larger boil kettle (Sanke), and adding a ball valve to it! No more lifting up...

    Wet shaving thread.

I use a large ceramic mug with a handle and an electric warming plate similar to this one: Pour some water in, start the plate and once you come out of the shower, it's perfect.

Very interesting papers on biosorption of heavy metals by brewer's yeast

I'm far from saying it'll definitely correlate in our uses but those are interesting findings nonetheless. There will also be dead yeast in a fermenter. I'll need to read all of those in-depth. Also, it is true of the Chinese and Mesfin study but: Excerpt from Feiraz, Teixera study: "2.1...

Very interesting papers on biosorption of heavy metals by brewer's yeast

Hopefully these haven't been posted before, used google search. So, being quite broke after spending a lot of money on a pump (local deal I couldn't pass up on!), plate chiller and SS fittings, I was wondering if I could cut some corners and use more brass fittings (I already use them on my...

    Using Caffeine

I'd use Wake-Ups caffeine tablets, one or half a tablet per bottle (100mg or "equivalent to a cup of coffee"). I think it'd be too "risky" to mix it in the whole batch. LD50 is actually 150-200mg PER KG of mass so it probably won't happen but the lethal dose doesn't take into account genetic...

Time really DOES heal all brew!

Yep. Thought my RIS was a failure (solventy and bitter in a bad way) and tried a bottle after about 4 months aging. It's now awesome, sweet enough and very complex. Too bad I only have 3 bottles left... lesson learned.

Best fittings for gravity-fed plate chiller?

Yes I do - usually until it cools down to my desired pitch temp - usually around 70F.

Best fittings for gravity-fed plate chiller?

Sooooo I wanna upgrade my IC after it took almost 40 minutes to chill down my last 10 gal. batch of IPA to 75F (and upgraded to a valve+dip tube) but after literally reading through ALL of the threads on fittings, I'm still at a loss as to which would be the best and cheapest for a gravity-fed...

WTB DudaDiesel 12" 30 plates chiller

Sounds good. The long, 30 plates sells for around 135$ so I'm pretty sure it's the compact version. Needless to say, I'll take it if it's the long version. :)

WTB DudaDiesel 12" 30 plates chiller

Title says all! Model number is B3-23A 30 Plate. Might be interested by something better or close to it! Thanks. :D

    Wet shaving thread.

Vaseline would clean badly and probably trap more moisture in than it would put out. Mineral oil like Gixxer said ! Personally, I don't bother and just strop it on the fabric side when I'm done.

The beer that got you into beer

Guiness... then Blanche de Bruxelles... then McEwan's Scotch Ale! I started brewing to make a (CHEAP!) clone of the latter. Still haven't tried to make one, as i'm having way too much fun doing more different stuff. But I'd say the one that made me a brewer forever is the Dieu Du Ciel "Chaman"...

    Wet shaving thread.

Looking very nice, first time I hear about those! 3" is a very good choice too. I think material has more to do with the feel than perceived sharpness... horsehide becomes all slick and very "fast", latigo has more 'grip' to it. I don't feel a substantial difference on my blade afterwards...

    Wet shaving thread.

Dunno what your budget is but I have a Tony Miller Heirloom latigo/cotton strop. I think it was 65$+ shipping or something. If you have more money to spend, look at getting horsehide, it's worth the money. And don't forget to get a practice strop to go with it, as you'll definitely cut it on the...

    iBrewmaster vs. Beersmith2

Same here. I mostly only run Macs in the house (Hackintosh tower is my main work tool) and went with Beersmith, despite the very ugly and very unintuitive UI. That said, it becomes second nature after a few recipes, really. Tried most of the software available for a few weeks before purchasing...

How much do you pay for bottles?

30 cents each for 500ml bottles.

Thought on ManPorter - Mango Baltic Porter

Thanks for your input guys! I cut a bit of the C60L to add 1lb of Munich 20L and kept the Carapils and 2-row as-is as I wanna finish the bags I have on hand. I'd have used flaked Barley instead of the Carapils. I may also swap the fruit and dry hops to 1oz of Citra instead, will probably cut...

    Wet shaving thread.

I've been into straight razor shaving for a few years now. The hardest part to start with was the honing but I built a nice 'collection' of stones - synthetic & natural and have a pretty good technique now. Mainly use DMT diamond stones for setting bevels, a chinese 12k, Shapton 16k and Swaty...

OFFICIAL Kate the Great Russian Imperial Stout Clone

Bottled this about 3-4 months ago and it's starting to blend just right - should've carbonated a bit more, as it's probably around 1.7 vols and maybe added a bit more port. I think a bit less than half a bottle went in. Still, probably my best beer to date.
