Cooler for 5-6 gallon BIAB mashes

Thanks, I have never really done a sparge before but I guess that would make sense.

Cooler for 5-6 gallon BIAB mashes

I want to switch to using a cooler for my BIAB mashes as I am having trouble holding my mash temp in my 15 gallon kettle even with it wrapped in insulated blankets. I usually go for 6 gallons into the fermenter so my batches usually are around 17 lbs or so of grain and 9.5 gallons or so of...

    Recipe help - NE IPA

Good info thanks! I'll am also a bit worried about the bitterness. Maybe I'll throw in an ounce of mosaic at 5 mins to be safe. Edit either that or I'll bump the first whirlpool temp to 175

    Recipe help - NE IPA

Yeah it looks like how they do it is weird. Even if I change the time on the first addition it doesnt change the ibus. Only if you change the utilization will it change but I dont know what utilization id actually get.

    Recipe help - NE IPA

Not exact numbers but if I let it go I would say it would drop down to 160ish in 10-15 mins

    Recipe help - NE IPA

I just updated it to remove the boil and flame out and only have a 170 degree and 150 degree whirlpool addition. Its calculating that the 170 degree addition will be 66 IBUs though which seems high.... should I do less at 170?

What do you guys think about this recipe? https://www.brewersfriend.com/homebrew/recipe/view/639496/hazy-ipa-new-grain-bill I am going to brew it this weekend. I have done hazy IPAs before but something has been off on most of them. I think they are a little too bitter. How does the hop...

Spike Conical- observations and best practices

Yeah I attach it to the butterfly valve on the racking port. I don't have a wand so that's why I was thinking about just utilizing the carb stone. Looking at options it might just be easier to get a wand though.

Has anyone used the carb stone to oxygenate yet? Is it easy to put a ball lock connection on an O2 tank?

    DIY glycol Chiller

I am using the inkbird 308! Works great! I also got this little pump to circulate the glycol while the AC is running (I just got an outlet splitter and plugged the AC and the pump into it so they both kick on at once). https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B077955YC2/?tag=skimlinks_replacement-20

    DIY glycol Chiller

Yeah mine is 5000 and it can cold crash to 36 easily. If I added more insulation to my conical it could probably go lower but I don't see a need.

    DIY glycol Chiller

I highly recommend building the glycol chiller. I am not much of a DIYer but this was super easy and saves a lot of money.

    DIY glycol Chiller

48 quarts I think it was. I have six gallons of water and 2 gallons of glycol in there

    DIY glycol Chiller

I followed this guide and used the same 5000 btu AC. It works great and was very easy. I didn't build the wooden box around mine. https://backdeckbrewing.wordpress.com

Spike Conical- observations and best practices

Sorry for the confusion I was trying to crash to 34 and my glycol chiller is set to 30. It's chilling the glycol down to 30 and cutting off the AC but then the glycol is going all the way down to 22 after the ac is off. The temp inside the fermenter is getting to 36 easy then getting stuck...
