Kettle too big for 3g batches

Check the last sentence in my quoted post above. I’m sure you can tell the difference between 2 liters versus 12 ounces per bottle right? :drunk:

Kettle too big for 3g batches

    67.628 oz > 12 oz

Kettle too big for 3g batches

    Now that’s an idea.

Kettle too big for 3g batches

Thanks for all of the suggestions. I could certainly tie a bag of marbles down there and pull them out with the basket. I hear the new kettle suggestions. It’s a little more than $70 with a bunch of soldered on fittings though. In the short term I’ll just make larger batches and dump part of...

Kettle too big for 3g batches

Not magical, but physical. 3 gallon kegs

Kettle too big for 3g batches

Eh, it might be a terrible idea but it isn’t because it’s a pipe bomb. A temp rise from 70 to 170F will be well below the working pressure of CPVC. If it were filled completely with water it may crack the CPVC but water has considerably less energy than a burning propellant in a pipe bomb.

Kettle too big for 3g batches

That would solve the problem but I’m recirculating so I can do automated step mashes

Kettle too big for 3g batches

When I built this system someone here said it would be too big for 3g finished batches, my math said otherwise so I went with it. I wanted the extra room for larger batches if I felt like it and not worry about boilovers. It’s fine for lower gravity beers but last week I tried a 1.067 SG batch...

    Element position

I don’t think it matters which way the heating element is rotated.

Boil kettle condenser - no overhead ventilation needed

I think you are going to need a weldless fitting, I don’t expect an epoxy to hold against two metals heating and cooling next to each other. If your hole is too big for the weldless bulkhead and you can plug it with something, you could buy a stainless lid and then solder a TC fitting to that...

    Secondary regulator pressure difference

What model of regulator do you have?

    Secondary regulator pressure difference

I would like to get a secondary regulator for bitters and such. Is there a minimum pressure difference required between the secondary and primary regulator? I'm not going to do something this small of a difference but can I have primary set for 12 psi and secondary for 11 psi?

    Insignia Kegerator Temperature Drift

I have an Insignia kegerator that I put a coffin top on to make it a 4 tap kegerator. Last week I had some bottles sitting on the floor and they were freezing so I put a small bottle of liquor in there so I could measure temps. I was sitting around 20F with the dial set to 4.3 out of 5. So I...

    Grainfather!!

I don't have a GF but a very similar home built system (I wanted more watts to save time), space or money were not the deciding factor. Simplicity, time, ease of setup and clean up were the biggest deciding factors.

    Recirculating floating mash

I’m doing recirculating eBIAB in a steamer basket with a Wilser bag. During my first attempt at recirculating eBIAB I found that mash temperatures weren’t even and were about 3 degrees less than the output wort temp. I think the wort was bypassing the mash and going around the edges of the bag...

    Bottle sanitation?

I ordered a scoby on Amazon and am planning on starting kombucha this week. What is the normal bottle cleaning regimen? For beer I fine rinsing bottles immediately after use and then sanitizing in my dishwasher before use works well. I was thinking because these are basically sour...

    Refractometer and using during fermentation

I use that brewersfriend brix to fg calculator and I find it accurate enough for my purposes. I never use my hydrometer anymore.
