how much barley needed to convert 1 lb of flaked oats?

Hi, I would like to try a partial mash with some flaked oats. I know that oats do not contain the enzymes needed for conversion and will need to mash them with some base malts for the conversion. My question is how many pounds of 2 row will I need to mash with 1 lb of flaked oats for...

how do u wire a 110v element to a regular wall outlet

I had an idea... What about ripping some parts out of one of those single burner hot plates / electric burners to control the element? I think those things run on 120v and are probably close enough in wattage. I was thinking about trying this with a 1500W element in a kettle myself.

Is a 50L keg kettle overkill for 5 gal batches?

I definitely want room to grow, but is there room enough there for 10 gallon batches? I'm kegging with 5 gal cornies so I can't see me doing anything in between.

Is a 50L keg kettle overkill for 5 gal batches?

Hi all, I am thinking of picking up a 50 litre SS keg to use as an electric brew kettle. Is 50L overkill for doing 5 gallon (~19 litre) batches? Thanks, -Rob

    30qt stovetop / 1500W electric aluminum kettle

Thanks, I've been thinking about the 2000W also. I'm not sure if my outlets are 15A or 20A to tell you the truth. Also I'd like to be cautious on the boil over control. Maybe I could wire an inline switch to the element in case I need to quickly turn it off. I deffinately see the value in...

    30qt stovetop / 1500W electric aluminum kettle

Hi everyone, I'm thinking about something and I wanted to run it by you. Right now I am using a 20qt SS pot on my glass top stove. It's a decent stove but I can only keep a boil going on about 2.5-3 gallons of water with the lid off, even with a towel duct taped around it (ghetto, I know, but...

Anyone use this temp controller off ebay?

Mine arrived in about 2 weeks. I used a plastic container for the case until I find something better (this was enough to get me going).

    Show us your Kegerator

LOL, it kind of looks like it but it's a thermometer to verify the accuracy of the temp controller.

    Show us your Kegerator

Here's my budget keezer. I'm not fabricating much of anything until we get another house with space to build a bar (maybe next year). We had a chest freezer already and I scored a tank, regulator, and 3 kegs for a decent price ($125). I built the temperature controller with a digital...

rust on my NEW stainless steel pot

Hmm, I wonder if it has anything to do with the chlorine in my tap water... And the pot's probably going back.

rust on my NEW stainless steel pot

LOL, this IS a bigger pot! :) I figure I will eventually build an e-keggle but I will also use this pot to make large batches of hot sauce. I grow peppers and have about 80 plants this year... looking forward to some good harvests! I've never heard of an SS pot rusting like this so I'll...

rust on my NEW stainless steel pot

No, I didn't use anything porous at all, just a dish cloth. I know things like that can cause SS to rust and that's why I am wondering about the brushed metal texture to the inside of this thing.

rust on my NEW stainless steel pot

No, I haven't even brewed with it yet. This morning I filled it full of water to see how long it takes to boil on my stove. It took about 40 minutes for around 4.5 gallons.

rust on my NEW stainless steel pot

Here's one for ya... I got a brand new Acrosteel 20 quart stainless steel pot on the weekend. The pot is 6 mil thick and has a "sandwich" base with aluminum core. I've been shopping around and this seemed like an ok quality pot for the price ($55 Canadian dollars). The outside of the pot...

    rack onto juice into keg?

Hi, thanks for the advice. I kegged the cider last night and it tasted pretty good so I left it as is.

    rack onto juice into keg?

Hi all, I'm about to keg my latest batch of cider, well, more like an apfelwein. According to my calculations it's about 9% abv and dry. I don't want to get too hammered when I drink this and I wouldn't mind it being a bit sweet. Do you think it would be OK if, as I keg this, to first ad...

Anyone use this temp controller off ebay?

Thanks for pointing this out, I missed the other thread. I just started a DIY temp controller build using a $20 digital AC thermostat but needed to spend another $20 on a relay. I just ordered this and will be returning my other thermostat.. Thanks!

got my refractometer, alcohol scale only!?

The seller is going to exchange it and refund me the shipping amount back. I think I'll get a 0-32 brix one instead since the one I had originally requested is now backordered.
