Use Brun Water, once you get it set up with your info etc...you will be much happier. I have compared the Brun Water calculations to my Beersmith2 and Beersmith2 is way off. I have gotten to the point where most of the time I don't even take the time to test PH of my mash anymore because it...
I did 125 for 25 minutes and then I went to 154. For the milling I mill the wheat twice and the 2 row or pils once. I have never tried the spritzing thing. I would use rice hulls as it's cheap insurance and it really works well.
I am making a German Pils today with 34/70 and am using 1 pack for 2.5 gallons and when it is done I will use that yeast to brew a 10 gal batch for my Festbier. 34/70 is a good all round choice for dry lager yeast. Here are some interesting comparison...
Bump your ferment temp up 5 to 10 degrees you could also put your dry hops in now which will also get the yeast moving again (there is some info on why dry hopping restarts it but don't recall where).
That is interesting. I once made up a batch of StarSan and it turned cloudy, after some research I found that Starsan will turn cloudy in hard water so I put two and two together and found that my water softener was not working.
I even use the OxiClean from Costco which is not the free, just takes an extra rinse or two to make sure there is no smell. I know you are all gasping right now but I have never had an issue using it. You can't beat the quantity and price.
Not sure what the deal is with BeerSmith but I would suggest using Brun Water instead. I do not use BeerSmith for my water and PH, for some reason it does not work out. I hardly even take a PH reading anymore because Brun Water has always been really close.
WLP833 is the yeast I used this time! The time I brewed it before I used WLP830 and won BOS at a local brewery. I plan to go back to the WLP830 or possibly 34/70. You also called it on the temp ramp because I did indeed ramp the temp earlier than normal using the "Quick Lager Method" outlined on...
So I have a tried and true Oktoberfest recipe that has placed well in comps but my wife says she tastes grapes when she drinks it (I can not). After further discussion between her I we decided to go out and try a commercial Oktoberfest and see how it compares so we ordered a Hacker-Pschorr and...
My next door neighbor is the head of the Metro Drug Unit and he once rolled in under my garage door which was two thirds of the way down and I think he was more or less just curious about what I was doing and how beer was made. He did smell the hops I had and made a comment about a similarity to...
Someone had this recipe on here somewhere and I made it. This beer is really good and will be one I keep making.
I was a little worried about pitching a single pack for a lager but I did and all worked well.
My wife and I compared it to the real Modelo and this one was much better!
Recipe...
I am wondering if anyone has noticed that BeerSmith will give a different estimated mash ph vs Brun Water? The last batch we did Brun Water calculated a ph of 5.4 whereas Beersmith came up with 5.61.
