    IPA is brewed

Awesome! Good to hear. Congratulations and enjoy every bottle...responsibly ;)

    Stuck vs. Complete Fermentation

But if fermentation was stuck, the hydrometer would also read the same for 3 days in a row.

    Stuck vs. Complete Fermentation

I understand the difference between the 2 but how do I know when one is taking place as opposed to the other? Is there a thin line between the 2? Is there a calculation to see if fermentation has completed?

    Bottle Bombs?

I'm not dry hopping. I've tasted it and the citrusy taste I get from my Cascade hops is exactly what I wanted. I'm not doing anything else to my brew. Just going to bottle it in a few days. But for some reason i'm paranoid of bottle bombs! lol

    Bottle Bombs?

By the way my FG is 1.008. The recipe called for a FG of 1.012 or so.

    Bottle Bombs?

I have a 2 week limit. My beer MUST be bottled within 12 days. If fermentation is done then i'll be fine right? I don't mind if the beer isn't super clear either. All I care is for nice hoppy taste for my IPA. This beer will be bottle-able within 2 weeks though if fermentation is done right?

    Bottle Bombs?

Well, I made an IPA. It's been in the primary for 8 days now. By the time I bottle i'll be at 11 days in the primary so i'm pretty sure fermentation will be done by then. Heck, I think fermentation is done now! My hydro readings have been pretty constant the last 3 days. I'll take one on...

    Final Gravity Differential

I used Nottingham Dry Ale yeast. It fermented about 22 - 23 degrees celcius. It was vigorous for the first 2-3 days.

    Final Gravity Differential

So I followed a recipe from The Joy of Home Brewing for an IPA (on page 173 if anyone cares lol). The recipe calls for an FG of about 1.014. What i've been reading for the past 3 days is an FG of 1.008. What could this mean and what are the consequences of this? Should I just disregard this as...

    Bottle Bombs?

How likely are bottle bombs? I'm a little worried about this. I have a 5 gallon batch i'm about to bottle and the recipe calls for 1 1/4 cup of DME. However, I don't know if this takes into account that i've taken out about 2 cups of beer for hydrometer readings. Basically, how exact does this 1...

    Too high an FG?

Is it dangerous to bottle a beer whose FG is not what it's suppose to be at? Example: The recipe mentions an FG of 1.012 but after taking a hydrometer reading on 3 consecutive days, the gravity remains at 1.022. By rule of thumb, the beer has finished fermenting, so what would happen if I...

Fruit fly fell into dry yeast that was rehydrating... Need to pitch, Okay to use?

I think weirdboy's answer is a little more professional and probably alot more right than the one I provided. :p

    Priming and Bottling Question

So after all the advice from this awesome forum, I decided not to rack to a secondary fermentor. Instead, this is the process I plan to use: Step 1: Boil and cool my priming sugar, add it to my secondary (or bottling) container. In this case it is my glass carboy. Step 2: Syphon the beer...

Do I really need to boil all my water?

I boil the wort for sure, sanitize everything but the remaining water needed to fill the 5 gallons up, I use tap water. I don't boil the tap water. I guess you can say 'i'm taking a chance', but it really doesn't worry me (and I worry alot). If the tap water in your area is safe to drink, then...

    Finished brewing my first batch

Welcome to the hobby!! I'm also relatively new to this, have brewed 2 and a half batches so far, and I find it fun and rewarding as hell! Let me tell you, there is nothing like tasting ur first batch for the firs time!

Will this give me overly sweet beer?

I would do that, however, the hole at the top is too small for me to fit a stirring apparatus in. I won't be able to properly mix in the priming sugar, unless someone's got a suggestion!

Will this give me overly sweet beer?

So, does the second part of my last message make sense then? Going from primary to secondary for a few minutes (just enought time to clean out my primary and boil my priming sugar), then rack back to primary and bottle from there.

Will this give me overly sweet beer?

My primary is my white bucket. My secondary would've been my carboy but if I decide not to rack to a secondary and I let it sit in my primary for a few more days then bottle, will my beer be very cloudy? And when i'm ready to bottle, is it a good idea to rack to carboy, wash out my white...
