Poll: Do you have, or plan to get, an electric car?

There are miles, recharge cycles and time... The differences on whether you would need to replace the battery in your time could vary dramatically.

Poll: Do you have, or plan to get, an electric car?

Sorry, my mistake in omitting nuclear..... Semantics... Point is that only 17% of the electricity to recharge your electric vehicle comes from renewable energy sources. And show me where lithium batteries are at least mostly recyclable. And I am not railing against electric vehicles - I...

Poll: Do you have, or plan to get, an electric car?

Better read you own link. It shows that renewable energy only accounts for 17% . Oh I left out nuclear..... So my 80% was actually low. As for lithium batteries I have read that they cannot recycle enough that it doesn't become a hazardous waste problem. Then you totally discount the...

Poll: Do you have, or plan to get, an electric car?

You are totally misinformed..... Electric vehicles are recharged off the electric grid. At least 80% is still produced with coal, oil or natural gas. So there is a lot of carbon footprint there. Batteries contain lithium..... It is a hazardous waste that is not easily disposed of and not...

Poll: Do you have, or plan to get, an electric car?

I may some day but the cost is still too high and the total effect on being green is not as good as they say. It takes a lot of electric use to make up for the carbon footprint of producing the car and charging it. Then there is the problem of the batteries. What do you do with the toxic...

    Crazy Idea...Centrifuge Fermenter

Just a thought. You spin the carboy. The glass turns and the liquid doesn't.........

What do you do with your spent grains?

I wasn't asking for percentages in a recipe. I was asking how much people use for bread and dog treats etc. out of a batch of spent grain. I dried almost half of one batch. That would be enough for 8-10 loaves of bread. What do you do with the rest???

    Crazy Idea...Centrifuge Fermenter

I can't imagine the equipment necessary to spin a carboy fast enough for that to work. Then you would need to keep it going while transferring for kegging or bottling. Once the level is low enough the sediment slung to the wall of the fermenter would start to fall back into the cleared liquid...

What do you do with your spent grains?

I used to have a large compost pile. Birds and animals never went near the pile of grain. I have spread it out thinly on the lawn, trashed and made bread with a very tiny amount of what I have produced. Those making bread and dog treats, what percentage did you use and what did you do with...

    Received warm liquid yeast

How warm is warm? It takes pretty high temperatures to kill yeast. But it is best to buy liquid yeast in the summer from a LHBS. They should be getting the shipments overnight and keep the yeast in a refrigerator. I always make a starter when using liquid yeast. Even from a LHBS you...

New guy, just trying to figure it out if I wanna brew

I would dispute the idea that getting advice from one person is a great way to go. You don't know the experience of one person. You don't know is that person is set in their ways. There are so many different ways to accomplish the same thing in brewing that getting advice from only one...

    Grains clogged my sink :/

Wow, Just got a like on my reply. April 5, 2016! My clog turned out to be a deteriorating galvanized pipe and years of sediment. It cost $1500. One thing lead to another and the whole stack where all the separate drains leading in had to be replaced. It was about 66 years old by that...

Something simple, pale, clean, crisp, and refreshing

100% Pale ale malt. The hops of your choice. Use enough hops to mask any off flavors up to a lot of them for a hop bomb ale. But as couchsending stated, work on your "mistakes".

Issue w/ "thin" taste and possible stalled Ferm!

4-5 degrees high in the mash is huge if you are already on the high side. This could be the reason for the high FG. You can gently swirl up the yeast cake and hope it restarts. You could pitch some more yeast. You should have made a starter when using liquid yeast. A course crush will...

Did I screw up or save my homebrew?

Missed the crystal part. With no base malt conversion would be low, the OG was bumped by the sugar. All crystal malt would make the beer very sweet, the sugar will ferment it drier. It may balance out, but now I say that you will get beer. Whether it is OK will be determined when it...

Anyone go from all grain to extract, and how was it?

I do both. About 95% all grain to 5% extract. I get similar results from both. I like the process of brewing all grain and like knowing exactly what is going into my beer. It is like cooking. You can cook with canned or packaged ingredients or use all fresh ingredients. I can get similar...

Did I screw up or save my homebrew?

It should be OK. Using 2 yeasts may change the character of the beer a little, but it should be alright.

    3 Gallon Better Bottle Markings

I like it! I have done that to most of my fermenters.

    Last minute sachet replacement yeast

The Brewer's Best site doesn't say what their yeast was. WLP001 should be fine. The other yeast was OK as it was also. But one pack of WLP001 without a starter was a little of an underpitch. I always make starters when using liquid yeast. You never know how well the pack has been handled...
