    BIAB VS All-In-One System

Hmm, you just got me thinking. I just remembered that there is a Danby warehouse not far from me with an outlet store where they sell refurbished fridges/freezers of every size. I think I'll check it out.

    BIAB VS All-In-One System

I should probably start another thread, but regarding kegs, how portable are they? I'd like to bring beer up to a vacation cottage each summer, but the thought of hauling kegs and C02 tanks is kind of daunting, not to mention how shaken up the beer would get on the drive.

    BIAB VS All-In-One System

Thanks everyone. I needed to be 'talked out' of spending money. I'll stick with BIAB for now as it seems to be working fine, and so far, good results. Kegging perhaps is the next step, although I just bought a crap load of bottles from a homebrew store going out of business cause they were...

    BIAB VS All-In-One System

Ok, first of all, I'm still a newbie brewer, but am hooked. I've got 5 batches currently on the go at various stages. I started with extract kits and now my last couple of batches were all-grain, using BIAB system. I was in a local homebrew shop last week, and they have a used Grainfather G30...

    Basic Cider Instructions Needed!

I was in the grocery store last week and saw apple juice on sale, so on a whim I bought 5 gallons of the stuff knowing I had an empty fermenting pail at home. So, I dumped all the juice in the bucket, pitched a package of S04 yeast with some yeast nutrient, and sealed it up. The airlock has...

    Expired Extract Kits

Thanks for all the comments. For $15, I might give it a try, realizing it may or may not be that good. But, cheap is good! LOL, and as mentioned, will give more practise in brewing.

    Expired Extract Kits

Just wondering, do cans of extract go bad? I ask because a local homebrew store is going out of business and has a bunch of Cooper's Can kits deeply discounted. If I pick up a few of these can kits for $10-$15, even if they're expired, is it worth it? I'm thinking they might be good for some...

    My Very First Home Brew

Yup, learning as I go, but having fun with it and enjoying the results even if they aren't perfect. Picking up ingredients today for a Pale Ale, and am also going to do my first apple cider. :)

    My Very First Home Brew

Thanks for that. Yeah, I probably didn't leave it long enough, but was really eager to try it. LOL

    My Very First Home Brew

Yup, already have two more batches on the go, and ordering some more ingredients for a new brew tomorrow. LOL

New Grainfather G30 240v Owner - Any tips for using this thing?

How did it go? I have my eye on a used G30 and am just curious what you thought after the first brew. Worth it?

    My Very First Home Brew

Ok, am so excited, I had to post this. A picture of my very first pint of home brew! This is an Amber Ale recipe (and it doesn't suck! LOL). Although it doesn't have quite the carbonation I had hoped for, it's very, very good. Can't wait to brew my next batch!

Stir the Mash on an All-Grain Brew?

LOL - have been reading "The Complete Joy of Home Brewing" by Charlie Papazian. Seems like that line is in every paragraph. I am learning to just have fun with this new hobby!

Stir the Mash on an All-Grain Brew?

Thanks for the reassurance. This was my first all-grain recipe as well as my first time using the BIAB method. And, I basically brewed it as you described (covered, let it sit, kept an eye on the temperature, strired it before taking the bag out). I can sleep easy now! LOL

Thoughts/input for a newbie getting into the hobby

From one newbie to another, I would suggest staritng with a couple of basic kits, and learn the craft as you go. I watched a lot of videos and read a lot about brewing before I started and thought I was ready to go 'all-in' on the most complicated recipe. A friend talked me into starting with...

Stir the Mash on an All-Grain Brew?

Ok, a question from a first-time all-grain brewer: Should you stir the mash or just let it sit (or does it matter?) The reason I ask....I was watching it very carefully, and it was holding at 152-153F as the recipe called for, which made me think 'Yes! I'm a pro!' But, then at about the 40...

    Plaato Airlock - Any good?

The ad says 'never used', so for $75 I might go for it. ($75 CDN is l ike $55 US). I do like the idea of not having to take hydrometer measurements because I don't think I ever really get it right.

    Plaato Airlock - Any good?

    Good point. Thanks.

    Plaato Airlock - Any good?

I see someone close to me selling a Plaato Airlock on Kijiji for $75. Seems reasonable enough, but is it worth it? Does it work well? Thanks in advance...

    Canadian Newbie

Just bottled my very first batch. An Amber Ale. So excited, as it tasted pretty good to me out of the bucket! It's going to be hard to wait the 2 weeks for it to condition in the bottles!
