Newell's Groundhog Cider (woodchuck amber clone)

Alright. It is finished. A few rookie mistakes, and lessons learned. It finished out right at 1.00, giving me 7.47%ABV. I used 6 cans of concentrate and got it up to 1.022. I gave up at that point as I did not have anymore concentrate and did not feel like running to the 24 hour Walmart. I mixed...

    Bucket residue help

So I am kegging my cider tonight. I had a fermenting bucket that I used once for an oktoberfest. I washed it out and put it full of oxyclean to soak for a few days. Life got a hold of me and it has been a few weeks. So I dumped it out and started scrubbing the inside with a soft sponge. there...

Newell's Groundhog Cider (woodchuck amber clone)

So I am going to keg this tomorrow. I just don't have it in me tonight. What is the general idea on how many cans of juice concentrate it takes to go from around 1.0 to 1.029? I will pick up some cans tomorrow, I just wanted to know roughly how many to buy. Thanks!

Funny things you've overheard about beer

Nope. Happened around date 3. The first few she had some of the craft beers that the restaurants offered. I guess she was trying to dole out her crazy slowly!

Funny things you've overheard about beer

A girl that I used to date would put pickles in her Bud Light. She said it needed them. I asked why she drank it then. She really had no good answer. Needless to say that relationship did not go very far.

    Sam Adams Maple Pecan Porter

So I had this beer about a year and a half ago while doing the brewery tour at Sam Adams in Boston. I thought it was absolutely amazing. It is what I would call a breakfast beer. It would go great with waffles! At the time they were just doing a trial of it and said that it would probably never...

    Stir Bar?

It also kind of depends on what size stir bar is ideal for your specific stir plate. It should say. To long and it will get thrown to the side while spinning. 1 Inch seems to be standard. If you are a member of Amazon Prime, then it is free two day shipping. That is if you dont have a LHBS to...

Funny things you've overheard about beer

Currently on hold with US Airways trying to get my flight tonight back to Detroit for work. They play the normal "commercials" even on the employee line. Just heard "Do you know we now carry Shock Top? It is a Belgium style ale." Made me think of the I drink Belgium Ales when I am in Belgian...

How many primaries do you have?

I have 3 6.5gal buckets, two 5gal carboys, and three corny kegs. I can secondary in the cornys if need be for lagers and cold crashing. The carboys do not see much use. Right now I have a cider, Oktoberfest, and Chocolate Milk Stout Going. Two empty cornys with the third serving Caribou Slobber.

    True Brew Oktoberfest lager Question

I only did a 30 minute boil. Just upped the water to 3 gallons so that I would not end up with caramel in the pot. Checked on it tonight, and it is happily bubbling away at 49 degrees.

    True Brew Oktoberfest lager Question

Bump with info. I brewed it tonight, and added 1lb of light DME to up the OG to 1.053. I used beersmith, and that seemed to be the best option. The IBU's were just a tad bit low, but I think that I will be ok with it. I used a 3 gallon boil. I pitched the Wyeast Oktoberfest yeast at 60 degrees...

How many of you enjoyed your first

My first beer was a Brewers Best Pumpkin Spice Porter. I learned a lot with that one. It is ok, but not great. There is just enough of a hint of fusel alcohol that it kind of has a bit of a kick. It is also very estery. My problem was at 90 minutes into the cooling I was finally at 80 degrees F...

    Finished up my second brew!

I have 5 ft of beer line connected to a picnic tap. What would be a good pressure to set it at when I back it down? Thinking around 7psi. 12 just blows it out way too quickly. I had a 3 oz sample just to test it out tonight.

    NB Caribou Slobber gravity?

Mine was an extract kit. 4 weeks in Primary. Kegged it last week. FG of 1.012. Tasted delicious. Had a 3 oz sample tonight to test the carbonation. Almost there. Wyeast 1332, the one that NB recommended. No starter used.

Newell's Groundhog Cider (woodchuck amber clone)

Just made this tonight. I went with the original recipe on the front page that newell had. I used 4.5 gallons of Sams club brand juice. $14 for 4.5 gallons. I used walmart brand concentrate at $1 per can. Took 3 cans or 36oz to get up to 1.058. I used 4 tsp of yeast nutrient per the instructions...

    True Brew Oktoberfest lager Question

So my girlfriend being as awesome as she is got me the True Brew Oktoberfest extract kit for Christmas. It came with an ale yeast packet, but I wanted to use Wyeast's Oktoberfest lager yeast. I figure I will ferment it in my chest freezer, then rack to secondary in a keg to lager. This will be...
