    My Keezer Build

I first off want to thank everyone for the inspiration and courage to jump into not only kegging but also building a Keezer. It's been a fun and hungry for money project thus far!!! Part of my problem is that I wanted to get it setup the way I wanted to do it, so there wasn't necessarily much...

    Shank size holes in wood?

The only thing I have done to mine thus far is take lid off the freezer, make the collar from 1x8's and order a crap load of kegging equipment. I am going with the johnson a419 temp controller. I also need to figure out air flow. I have seen people use marine grade blowers, computer fans...

    Shank size holes in wood?

good points r8rphan! I think you convinced me to go with a 1" hole. I was also concerned with cooling efficiency but I suppose the insulation will negate that extra size to the hole.

Milk Stout - How long to secondary ferment!?

Thanks guys, Yep, I'm in NO real hurry with this beer. This is my first stout. The reason I racked it to secondary in 6 days was I had the help to move the 5 gallons so it made sense to rack it. Somehow I either got a hernia and/or just some strained muscles and so when i had the help I...

Milk Stout - How long to secondary ferment!?

I brewed my Mackeson Milk Stout Clone on 9/20/09 and the only thing I did special was add about 12oz of unsweetened nestles baking cocoa. I racked it to the secondary on 9/26/09. How long would you all leave it on the secondary, is it time to bottle this weekend!?

    Fermentation Temps

Ok, I understand that and totally agree, but my house temps were a constant 70 degrees the entire time, never dipped. It was the natural fermentation that raised the temperature of the beer fermenting. My question is, do you guys do anything to counteract that!? Thanks again for the...

    Fermentation Temps

Over the weekend I had my house at 70 degrees and at first my wort was cooled to 70 degrees using my CF chiller. I noticed once the fermentation got going though the temp increased to about 74-75 degrees and then a few days later now has decreased back down to 70-71 after the fermentation...

Need help with primary fermenting in glass carboy.

Hello all. So I think my next batch I want to primary ferment from a glass carboy with a blow off tube. 1. Do you just pitch the yeast in a regular 6.5 gallon plastic bucket and then dump with funnel into the glass carboy or just dump the yeast through the little carboy hole? 2. What...

    Sanitizing routines ?

I'm looking to improve my routines on sanitizing. Currently I use one step no rinse and mix 1 tbsp with 1 gallon and do the countertops and then all the equipment that will touch my cooled wort or beer. Now I'm moving my brewing process to the garage to do bigger batches. Ok so let's say...

Can you start with HOT - 120-140 degree water?

For me, everything runs through the water softener. I don't if that's good or bad for brewing water but I considered starting to use my own water. Normally I just buy spring water. What I planned on doing though was using a Culligan Filtration system through a white water drinking hose for...

Can you start with HOT - 120-140 degree water?

Any reason why you wouldn't want to use HOT water out of the faucet to start your boil? My tap water is about 120 degrees or so and it would cut my boil time down some. I currently only do extract brewing and am doing 5 gallon full boils (starting next week) and after a that 10-12 gallon...

Ok so 3/4" washers should fit snug? The normal locknut with nylon threads is rated above boiling temps so maybe I'll try that. Thanks guys!
