    Black rubber on keg

I know you're troubles, but have yet to find a cure . I just bought a cheap rug to keep in the kitchen when I sanitize or rack.

How much sugar to prime a keg?

I would like to tag a follow-up question onto this. How much corn sugar to properly prime an ordinary bitter that will be drawn from a hand pump? I've read less than 1/2 cup to start, but I'm going to be running close to the deadline on this and need to get it right the first time. Sorry to...

    Aging beer in a cave

Thanks for all the suggestions! I think I'll go with an unfiltered Belgian Strong, but I'm still on the fence as to how I'll store it. I own two 5-gallon cornies, but no 3-gallon kegs. That may have to go on the Christmas list now. Buried is a great idea, and the treasure map thing is just...

    Aging beer in a cave

Its actually going to be on private land, so trash won't be an issue. But point taken. As for the extra effort of two trips – the plan is to take the bottles in on a day trip, when they would be the only weight we carry aside from water bottles. Then we can enjoy the beer in the fall...

    Aging beer in a cave

In an effort to have quality beer while backpacking, a buddy and I are planning on hiking some homebrew into a future camp spot several months before a trip. The hopeful plan is to find a cavern or sinkhole to store the brew between spring and fall. This is a two part question/survey. 1...

    First AG, Smoked Belgian Stout

I've been wanting to use rosemary in a stout for a while. (I've got a huge bush in my garden) That should be a great aroma finisher, especially with the Abbey Ale yeast. Looks fantastic.

    Fresh Junipers

Hiking in Middle Tennessee last weekend, I came across a bush exploding with blue Juniper berries. I took just over 1/2 ounce home with me, and I want to add them to a Robust Porter. My previous spice experience dictates that I soak them in vodka to make an extract. I did this, and an...

    100% foam

Sounds very much like a problem I've been battling. I switched to a 1/4" shank and started using a 3/16" line and that helped. BUT, it didn't help immediately. Change your line to 10 feet of 3/16" ID and set your PSI (10 or 12, or whatever) and let it sit overnight. Changes take time to...

    Different sized barbs HELP!

OK, let me clarify. Is my beer foaming because its coming out of the keg from a 3/16” line and exiting a 1/4” spout? Could it be initially swirling around inside the larger area, causing the early pours to be foamy?

    Different sized barbs HELP!

I've had this recurring problem with my kegged beer getting foam on both ends of the line – foam at the shank and foam at the disconnect, with beer in the middle. This makes for a foamy beer unless the line has been just primed with another pour; and I mean JUST primed. This means I typically...

    Purging O2

Well it doesn't really get any more definitive than that. The response is very much appreciated. Commencing relaxation.

    Purging O2

I made a rookie mistake and forgot to purge the oxygen from my keg before force carbonating. I had about 3 inches of clearance to the top when I set the room temperature keg into the fridge and cracked it to 40 psi. I let it go about 4 hours before realizing my mistake. Its a really...

    I need ideas!!!

I have just been asked to be the best man at my friends wedding. As part of my duties, I have been charged with brewing the desert beer. The only qualifications are that it involves rye and raspberries. This is the man who got me into homebrewing, and he works at RebelBrewer.com, so there...

Conditioning in a keg that is not fully sealed

I hadn't even thought about the coffee beens floating. I'm a *******. As far as the keg goes, its not open per say, just not fully sealed. The gap is negligible, but it is enough to keep the keg from pressurizing.

Conditioning in a keg that is not fully sealed

I am conditioning a stout in a Pepsi corny keg, but I am also cold extracting coffee beans at the same time. In order to keep the bean accessible for their eventual removal, I had to place them in a grain sack, and wrap the edge of the sack around the lid of the keg before closing it. This is...

Using a pasta maker to mill grain.

I can't believe I just now found this thread! I tried to read all of the posts, but 43 pages is just too much. So I'll just ask my dumb question now. What was the verdict on using a power drill for a motor? I watched an external video of a juicer, along with MOS' video of a shop motor, and...

    Flaked Maize in Extract Batch

Thanks. That's exactly what I need to know. I'll probably just go with honey to keep it holiday.

    Flaked Maize in Extract Batch

I have never used corn in any of my beers, but I am doing a pumpkin ale that I want to keep on the dry side, and I figured flaked maize would be appropriate to the holiday. So my question is this, when and how do I incorporate it? Obviously I'm not doing a mash, but I have a little over a...
