Who is brewing on Long Island?

Why sketch to blow off if you’ve had it sounded up til now? Why not just leave it?

New England IPA "Northeast" style IPA

Yeah it’s noted on their blog about being vegan and using bio fine. I just dosed a beer two days ago with gelatin to see if it would drop out some serious hop burn from too much Vic secret. So far a little improvement but nothing major yet. No clarity difference at all. This was post dry hop tho

    Lallemand Verdant IPA Ale

I think the post from @crusader1612 was in reference to the mangrove m66 hophead, but perhaps I’m wrong

American IPA Base Pale Ale Recipe for Single hop Beers

Yeah, I hear you and that is definitely a risk. But lacking any improvement over the 2 weeks + it sat on gas, I didn't think it just adding more time would be enough. Am I being impatient? probably. Might this reduce hop potency? maybe also true. While googling if gelatin would pull hop burn...

American IPA Base Pale Ale Recipe for Single hop Beers

It wasn't a single hop, and not this grain bill but I just did a beer with 6 oz VS (2 whirlpool, 4 DH) along side citra (2oz boil, 1ozWP, 4oz DH) and I am getting all kinds of that bitterness noted above. I think its the polyphenols from the VS mucking things up. I agree it isn't all too...

New England IPA "Northeast" style IPA

Yeah I kinda thought it might be yeast in suspension. When dropping the second dry hop, there seemed to be some action. I was hoping it was just co2 coming out of solution after being depressurized, having kept it at 10-20psi for those 2 days. It definitely occurred to me it might be more than...

    Bourbon County Stout clone attempt

I swear I saw 1.040 but it was definitely a long time ago. Then again I prefer the older stuff to the newer. It was roastier, a little rougher. Even the 2014 bottles I still have maintain some of that quality over the more recent releases. Started following you on ig to see more of this...

New England IPA "Northeast" style IPA

Gelatin to help drop polyphenols/hop burn? Dry hopped with 4 oz Citra, 4 oz Vic secret, split between two apps. Both at 60, which I slower than my usual dry hop temp. Cold crashed for a few days to 58 before hand. Fermented with A24. It’s been two weeks on gas in the keezer and almost no...

New England IPA "Northeast" style IPA

If you had a PSIA gauge then yes but all of our gauges are PSIG aka gauge pressure. Gauge pressure accounts for atmospheric. Such that 0 on a psig gauge would be 14.7 on a psia one

Who is brewing on Long Island?

I’ll actually miss them. Of all the riverhead breweries that’s where we we went most often. Balor is good but I could copy paste your post and just replace long Ireland for my tastes. I really enjoyed the spot before expansion and it’s clearly what put them under. I started going there from day...

New England IPA "Northeast" style IPA

after star san purging the keg, i run CO2 at like 2-4 psi while dumping the hops in. this is similar to what the pros do in their larger tanks (Granted their headspace to volume ratio is WAY lower than in a corny). This works well for me and I typically dont run into foaming issues unless the...

New England IPA "Northeast" style IPA

FYI, AIH sells the straight ones for ~20 bucks. My corny's also have the bent dip tube, and the straight is an easy replacement. I still had to cut it slightly (1/2") due to the curve at the bottom of the keg. I wasn't as brave as @HopsAreGood and was too afraid to bend the filter.

Who is brewing on Long Island?

Thanks! The weird thing is the last two times I used the A24, this was gen 3, it didn’t come close to that attenuation. The oat one actually stopped at 1.024. This beer this year was from the same pouch. I was not adjusting at all before I started reviewing the scwa site. I’ve definitely...

Revived 22 month old A05 Voyager

No o2, just depend on the o2 from the spin. And yeah, if I went to a 2L starter from here I’d do 200 in 1000. Saves the time of crash/decant. You can really do any volume you want by just calculating total points. It’s easiest to just double it as you double the volume but if you wanted to...

Revived 22 month old A05 Voyager

I love me some imperial yeast but since my lhbs closed due to covid I can only get it shipped in, usually from more beer. My preferred “local” is actually in Jersey and they stopped carrying last year (though with the new east coast plant maybe they’ll pick it up again). Anyway Voyager was last...

Who is brewing on Long Island?

I do correct the water. Been doing for 2 or 3 years now. I started with the SCWA reports (I’m in zone 1) and got it tested at ward about 18 months ago. I think the biggest difference was my efficiency got a lot more stable by adjusting for mash pH. Can’t say I’ve done any with/without...

Who is brewing on Long Island?

No idea they had opened a brick and mortar, thats good info. I've only had chromatic, which alright, nothing ground breaking. but still worth checking out. I went to PCB the other weekend to grab some crowlers. The spot is phenomenal, tons of windows with bright light and the deck on the river...

    Long Island Water Testing

This is zone 1, in Patchogue. I used the average values on the scwa report for a year before getting real data and they were pretty darn close. These results were taken November 2019. I’ve been thinking about retesting but not like any recent beers came out differently than expected

    Tapcooler counter pressure bottle filler

The first time using it I just dunked the whole unit in star san and had the same problem. Before my second use, I removed the threaded part entirely, there is a spring that will also fall out. There is one more tiny part in there that holds the oring and provides the seal. This was stuck in...
