It's just 83 Lbs give or take :D

Splitting a 10 Gallon Batch into 2 Fermenters

This would be an ideal time to find a 15.5 gallon "sanke" to ferment the whold batch in at once...just sayin!

    Temp Control

well as luck would have it I found a functional chest freezer on craigslist for $15 so I think that settles this issue for me :) Picked up a set of new wheels and tires from these folks ( brand new stock ones ) for $80 as well cause they were moving and just wanted them gone...just one tire...

    Beer Filtration System

When you get right down to it there is really no reason any of them couldn’t be reused a few times. Back flush them well to get as much particulate matter as you can out. Get a large kitchen container, something like that, tall enough to hold an element or two and store them in clean...

    Temp Control

Interesting and low tech...I think I have seen one similar to that. Lately I have been l trying to think if as many super cheap ideas as I can. I frequent craigslist, specifically the free section. I think I like the idea of building from recycling junk as it were. Thats kind of what got me...

    Temp Control

Cooling is generally more of an issue over the course of a year round here. I figure this would work to help cool as well in the hotter months...just pull the heater and let physics do its thing. I could even imagine using a temp control unit to monitor the water temp in tub and it switching...

    Temp Control

As well as that may be, the beauty of my plan is that it should work in several ways. If the fermentation heats up enough on its own then the heater never kicks in. If the fermentation does not heat up enough the heater kicks in and stabilizes things. If the fermentation heats up...

    Temp Control

I have been thinking of alternative ways to maintain temps during fermentation. Right now it’s a little chilly by our standards so keeping the temp UP is on my mind. Too cool to just let the fermentation sit in the garage and I am not going to heat the house all day just to keep temps up...

    Beer Filtration System

Someone sells a filter that they say can be boiled a few times to sanitize...I will look for that link and post it if I find it Simple enough to test really...use it, boil it and see if it holds up? Could also just back flush and let it soak in starsan or the like.

    Corny vs.

well found out what he has are 1/4 barrels and as it turns out I can get only two in there so three cornys it is...unless he comes up with $25 1/6 barrels first :) Then I suppose I am back to trying to figure out which one again.

    Making a Lager Fridge

Seems like some wine coolers go up to the 60's or better but you will spend more on those than a "craigslist special" and temp controller.

    Making a Lager Fridge

It gets warm in the summer to say the least here in Austin, hell, it was 74 out today. My house was a former model so the garage was once an "office" and as a result, it is fully insulated like part of the home. Still I worry it will get too hot in the summer months. I have been collecting...

Real Ale Brewing Company (Blanco, TX)

They brew “Drafthouse ESB” for a local movie theater in Austin…Alamo Drafthouse. At the Lake Creek location they had it cask conditioned the last time I was there…AMAZING. The regular tap version is easly a match for Fullers bottled and damned close to Fullers draft...

    Corny vs.

So I have a chance to get three 1/4 or 1/6 barrel kegs (not sure which but the question kinda is the same either way) for $75. I have no kegs at all just yet…apart from the sanke tube/valve being a little more difficult to deal with than corny keg fittings…why wouldn’t I...

    In which keg to ferment...

That is definitely the way I am leaning and hard. I think I just like to have my thoughts confirmed by like-minded people :) I am going to try to see if I can get the shorty traded for a tall pony this week anyway, that will make the decision for me. I feel like the taller ones would be...

    In which keg to ferment...

So I have three kegs to use for what ever I like. A regular, 15.5 sanke, a tall 7.5 and a short 7.5 The tall pony is definitely going to be a fermenter. One of the other two will be a keggle and the other a will ferment. Logic says cut the 15.5 so that bigger batches can be done later but...

Noob question 1: The Brew Kettle

I have not brewed a batch yet…that’s how new I am to this. I am researching a lot right now while I gather my gear. I like the DIY aspect of just about any endeavor I undertake. Question #1. Brew kettle. I was planning on making one from a sanke keg. Weldless fitting and false bottom...

    Noob question 1: The Fermenter

I have not brewed a batch yet…that’s how new I am to this. I am researching a lot right now while I gather my gear. I like the DIY aspect of just about any endeavor I undertake. Question #2: Fermenter I was reading up on using a 15 gal Sanke and perhaps a 10 gal corny (got a...

two...was actually gonna try to make up to AHS tomorrow at lunch and post on your corky board :)

I have more 20lb Co2 tanks than I really need

Austin area only I think…otherwise it does not make much sense right? You folks know what they go for new as well as anyone so $100 each seems reasonable no? These are fugly cause they are used. Take them to a welding supply place to get them filled and do an exchange instead if that...
