Anyone use Artisian bottled water for AG. I'm making the jump to AG and my water dept is not helping at all. Can't seem to locate the mineral content and the annual report does not list a lot of these.
So, I'm thinking of using artisian. Thoughts?
AMEN!!!
Even recent BJCP judges have been duped into thinking these beers should have peat in them and it just isn't so. Scottish Heavy, if it has the flavor, arrives that way naturally and without the peat.
Anyway...I know it's an old thread but I had to praise this.
Ahh! I see. I found them cheap at target so you're probably right. Picking it up, I would just imagine the heat loss would be to great. And I'm impatient. :D
Build the recipe as the 5 gallon original and at the top, there is a button that says "scale" enter your final volume and viola! Only rarely does it screw with gravity but then you can make minor adjustments if you need to.
The only time you should need a diacetyl rest is if you pitch warm (70°).
I have not done a true lager but I would imagine your idea will work. Get it down with the IC and pop it in the freezer. It will take a while, though.
Beer smith will do it for you. Assuming you edit the parameters on some equipment and figure in 15% evap loss from the boil. ANd maybe .25 trub loss on your 2.5 gal batch
Hey gmds. I'm down in Avondale (Dysart/McDowell). I'm attempting my first AG this weekend (early Sunday morning).
Oh, and I have the flyer for the cookoff (saw it at What Ale's Ya) and plan to be there. Maybe even get there at 7 to watch the brew masters do their thing.
Welcome! Can I say that? I'm new too. I registered about 3 weks ago but haven't been on much.
I live over in Avondale and I'm making the jump to AG this weekend. Brewing a Scottish Heavy 70/- in honor of the Cards going to the Super Bowl for my first AG batch.
Thanks everyone. I've been reading how to brew and others pretty religiously. I'm skipping partial mash and going straight to all grain. Why perfect extract brewing when extract and AG are 2 different animals?
I live in the Phoenix area. Recently began brewing. Did a couple Mr. Beer recipes (don't throw stuff at me) and have moved to partial grains and full wort boil since. I want to make better beer and learn to mash, harvest yeast, etc.
Mike
Thanks for this info, Jon. I registered here just to ask a question.
Does the large washer get in the way of the nut on the bottling wand? My Lowe's does not have that part number for the angle valve. It DOES make a difference because on the part number I have, the washer has nowhere to rest...
