    Alpine Nelson Clone Attempt

They have to tweak the recipe in order for the beer to come out well on the GF system. They've been experimenting with fining and dry hop ratios to counteract the fining process, and even taking criticism from people. I heard they accidentally filtered a huge batch of it and it's coming out...

Idk man, this poured like straight orange juice.

    Alpine Nelson Clone Attempt

I never get any spiciness from Nelson. A pretty clean maltiness with the rye contributing smoothness to the body.

Jesus Christ what a **** show that just occurred.

I have to agree. Seems like too much SC in that recipe. Every recipe going around has more Nelson in it.

    Alpine Nelson Clone Attempt

I did 6oz for a 6 gallon batch and I think it's quite enough. So here is the somewhat final product. I'll be bottling it this weekend I think. OG 1.066 FG 1.010 ABV 7.35% which is just above the target ABV Color is slightly lighter than Nelson. Nose and taste are definitely close to Nelson...

    Alpine Nelson Clone Attempt

It's slightly more on the yellow side than the orange side. The flash made it look a little darker. Also, I think my yeast was a little stressed because I'm getting some banana esters. It was harvested from previous brews and I think that's why. Just did the second dry hop (2oz Nelson, 1oz So...

    Alpine Nelson Clone Attempt

Here it is. Pretty much done with active fermentation. Still bubbling a bit but it's slowed down. Really hazy but I suspect it's mostly yeast that still needs to drop out. Color is spot on, if a little on the light side. My flash was on which makes it seem a bit more orangey when in fact it's...

    Alpine Nelson Clone Attempt

Whoa, Pat wasn't a dick. Today was a good day. Speaking of Societe, I wonder if there's a Roustabout clone floating around anywhere. One of the best DIPAs I've ever had.

    Alpine Nelson Clone Attempt

Brewed this yesterday and it's just chugging away right now. Color looks pretty spot on. Haven't had a taste yet but the aroma won't fully kick in until I dry hop. Probably one of my smoothest brew days despite missing target mash temp and OG. I have a few different thermometers and they're all...

Grab some SC from Yakima valley hops. Pretty cheap too.

    Alpine Nelson Clone Attempt

Someone on reddit posted this recipe. Seems like they got it from someone who got it from Pat. The amount of hops seems way too low though. Comes out to about 30 IBU which seems pretty low. http://www.reddit.com/r/Homebrewing/comments/2ukkbo/who_needs_alpine_when_you_can_brew_nelson/ Nelson...

You think it's better around 20%? Do they use both flaked rye and rye malt?

    Alpine Nelson Clone Attempt

I'll probably brew something based off of what you have here. Possibly this coming week...if I can find Southern Cross. Here's what I'll be brewing. https://www.brewtoad.com/recipes/alpine-nelson-clone-1 I'll post results.

    Alpine Nelson Clone Attempt

    So how'd this turn out?
  20. M

RIS fermentation stuck at 1.050 gravity

I went ahead and pitched a second vial. According to brewtoad I only needed one vial, but on the pitch rate calculator it says to pitch two. I'll see how that works out.
