I have problems keeping my tubing straight, little blue pill doesn't help.

Okay, that is a cheap joke. But when I go to rack my beer the tubing curls up, as expected, since it has been stored in a loop. Do more experienced brewers weigh down the end of the tubing? Any ideas?

    Fermenting high temperatures

That's a good point. In fact a closet on the north side of the apartment should be cooler too.

    Fermenting high temperatures

This thread came at a perfect time. I have a brown ale ( 1.046 OG ) in a fermenter using the tub of water, towel and fan cooling method. It has been sitting at 70' for 2 weeks. I would like to brew another ale but have not built a SOFC yet. My apartment gets up to 80' without AC and I compromise...

    watery tasting brew?

I remember my late uncle putting salt in a beer once, just a few shakes. I didn't ask why, but I wish I had. I just assumed it was some old fashion thing he did.

    Buying erlenmeyer flask in NYC?

+1 for Brooklyn Homebrew. Plus they are great people.

    How to clean immersion chiller

Last week after brewing I let it soak in water in my brew pot while I aerated and pitched, etc., then I just washed it in the tub. It sounds like that is doing enough.

    How to clean immersion chiller

I'm really just interested in getting any corrosion or dirt that normal washing does not get rid of.

    How to clean immersion chiller

After brewing I clean my immersion chiller with dish soap and water. But after a few uses it can get pretty dirty. Do I want to soak it in PBW ( or oxiclean )? I tried that and the PBW water turned green. Do I want to then rinse and soak in an acid solution like star san? Thanks!

I've had two people tell me it's stupid to brew a session (low ABV) beer

This is funny to me because on Tuesday I decided to brew a mild. One reason is to brew a session beer, another was to brew a beer that would be ready a little quicker than an ESB, and I also wanted to concentrate on simple basic techniques as a beginner ( re-beginner but whatever, still a...

    Nashville Home Brewers

Years ago I travelled for a company that made audio mixing consoles, so I went to nashville for a while. I would always stop at All Seasons and they were great people. There is also a brew pub, Blackstones, where Dave Miller was the brewmaster. I thought they had great beer.

Using Starbuck's Via in a beer

I agree with the OP's opinion of VIA. It's not great coffee but beats what we have in the pantry at work or stale coffee at a 7-11.

"Son of a Fermentation Chiller" almost complete!

Having them cut the board would make sense for me because I live in an apartment. I don't need the shavings all over my kitchen and probably my living room! I am trying to decide between SOFC and the low tech lagering. SOFC seems to be more space efficient, which is a plus! I'm looking forward...

Do I need to worry about hanging a towel over my fermentation bucket?

I like the idea of using a belt to keep the shirt tight.

Do I need to worry about hanging a towel over my fermentation bucket?

Until I build something for fermentation temperature control I am setting my fermenter in a container with water, drape a towel over the fermenter and blow air on it with a fan. So the towel is over the lid of the fermenter. Is there any way that this is unsanitary? I'm using this with a bucket...

    Oxygenate before Pitching ...

or Pitch before Oxygenating or it doesn't matter? Yesterday I brewed and pitched, stirred the yeast in and then did a 15 sec. blast of oxygen, waited a minute and then did another 15 sec. blast. My guess is that is fine but I figure it is good to ask.

    How to bottle condition pilsner?

Shooters point about adding yeast at bottling may be worth looking into. I believe the late Greg Noonan advises this.

Beer went sour, Is my fermenter bucket ruined?

Thanks for the explanation. Maybe it's like oxi-clean (sp?) or PBW. Although they are cleaners and not sterilizers.

Beer went sour, Is my fermenter bucket ruined?

What is VWP? I did a search but could not find it.

Beer went sour, Is my fermenter bucket ruined?

    That is good logic!

Beer went sour, Is my fermenter bucket ruined?

Basically I messed up on a batch. I had racked into the bottling bucket but had a leak, so I quickly racked back into my fermenter. I covered it with aluminum foil because the bucket cover was no longer sanitary. My plan was to bottle after it settled but got overwhelmed with stuff and the...
