    Post your infection

Yeah, learned my lesson. I'll purge with CO2 next time I secondary. I'm keeping my hopes up. I'll let it run its course and bottle and maybe it'll turn into something wonderful.

    Post your infection

First infection. Showed up in secondary after about 2 weeks. Had to happen at some point, I guess. :/ Sent from my HTC One using Home Brew mobile app

Why didn't I make a stir plate sooner?

I might do that next time on bottle-harvested yeast that I know I don't want a large quantity of. I built it up from bottle dregs to a 1500ml starter, then split the entire starter up into a few mason jars for later use; going to use each individual jar to make a full starter for each 5-gallon...

Why didn't I make a stir plate sooner?

Harvested from a six-pack of Bell's Two Hearted, took a little less than a week in 4 steps. Ended up with just under 24oz starting with bottle dregs, going to use a jar to make a full starter next week to pitch into an IPA I'm brewing.

    Orange Peel + hopstand = ?

Answer was right in front me. Going to use a muslin hop sack @ 5 minutes and then pull it out at flameout. Thanks, toklas from Reddit!

    Orange Peel + hopstand = ?

Yeah, I'm looking for just a bit of that fragrant note in concert with the hops. Normally I would go over what I think would happen and test, or do a split batch, but I'm brewing this specifically as a competition beer and don't want to be knocked for excessive fruitiness. It just makes sense...

    Orange Peel + hopstand = ?

Searched, but couldn't really find an answer to this. I'm going to be brewing an IPA this week or next that I've brewed before, but I thought I'd try it with a hopstand this time. The issue being, I normally throw in .5 oz of sweet orange peel with 5 minutes left in the boil. With the...

    Worst brewing accident yet!

So will writing over it with a dry-erase marker and then erasing it off.

    Yeast starter tin foil

Personally, I think that's just about one too many. I'm in no position to tell you how to live your life, however. Whatever gets your motor goin', man.

What is Your Efficiency - batch Spargers

    Around 80%, +/- a tenth or two of 1%.

    Mash tun cooler conversion/screen question.

Worked like a dream. 80% mash efficiency, missed BeerSmith's predicted gravity by .002. Thank both of you for being awesome!

    Mash tun cooler conversion/screen question.

Didn't see this until I'd already enacted Yooper's advice, the screen is beyond that now; I bent and flattened it over with a channel lock: Top-down: Side 1: Side 2: Going to start grinding grain in a few minutes, I'll report back how she flies after the mash.

    Mash tun cooler conversion/screen question.

I picked up a 10-gallon cylindrical rubbermaid cooler for Home Depot and put a weldless ball valve on it with a torpedo screen; the problem being, the torpedo screen didn't fit completely and I had to bend it a bit to make it lay mostly flat on the cooler bottom. Will this kink have an effect on...

Wait until you start obsessively sniffing the airlock.

    First brew tomorrow

A traditional American IPA. You'll thank me when you smell the airlock.

    First brew tomorrow

Good luck and welcome to the obsession my friend! Add 50-70% of the extract at 15 minutes left in the boil, forget what your kit instructions say about adding it all at the beginning. Brewing a Russian Imperial Stout tomorrow, we're brew buddies!

    Wife thinks I'm crazy but....

This describes the last month of my life so eloquently. It's... it's just such a beautiful thing.
