Can you Brew It recipe for Firestone Walker Union Jack

I brewed this one on August 30th. Checked it at day 5 and was at like 1040. I've been struggling keeping my ferm temps stable in my apartment so I placed a jacket around it and swirled the bucket. Next morning it took off again and was down to 1020 at day 8. I threw in the first dry hops and...

    Union Jack IPA

Have you had a chance to taste this yet? I'm thinking about brewing this after listening to the shows. I've never tried it (east coaster) but it sounds like a delicious beer!

    Hot side aeration

Spend your time worry about what your beer is doing during fermentation and conditioning rather than worry about HSA. Should you try to keep HSA under control when transferring from MLT to BK? Yeah--but I wouldn't spend any money or time other than to put your hose to the bottom of the kettle...

    Stuck clearing?

Are you heating the gelatin to ~180* F and letting it cool before adding it to the beer? I believe you need to do this in order for the gelatin to work--at least that's what I have done and had 100% clearing within 48 hours. Keggle: coupling position

Not to be a smart ass but I'm sure with a tape measure you could figure out where to drill the hole for that false bottom dip tube. At the very least you could drill a pilot hole from the inside where the dip tube will connect to the coupling through the keg wall. Or you could just eye ball...

Using a pasta maker to mill grain.

Not what I wanted to hear! They do move a little bit side to side but I thought they were both moving equally. Oh well. Still not a big enough problem for me to stop milling my own grain with it. I'll just have to mill it twice.

    Hop conversions in BeerAlchemy

I thought I had an answer for this but I don't. Maybe you could try contacting Beer Alchemy and see if they can help. I am interested in an answer to this.

Using a pasta maker to mill grain.

I have been having issues with quite a bit of grain going uncrushed--about 10% I'd say. I have to send it back through the mill in order to get it to where I'd like it. But when I do that I get a **** load of flour and I don't really like that. I have weather striping along the top of the...

    PVC Tower Cooling Solution

I did the copper tubing thing and it has worked great. The tubes stick about 2 inches down into the kegerator and end at the top of the T tower where the lines have to change direction. I'm very happy with this solution and wouldn't even consider using a fan and a hose.

    Bleach as a cleaner

Probably not--that was lab protocol b/c we had to meet animal testing standards (I can't remember what the governing body was called). The doctors in the lab used zebra fish to study colon cancer and I had to keep the fish happy. I think you would be fine if you just rinsed through two or...

    Bleach as a cleaner

In the cancer lab I worked in we used 1 once of bleach in 1 gallon of water. That is what we used to clean anything that had organics stuck to it (cancer cells, mold, fish food, etc...). We soaked it until it was clean and then rinsed with water for 10 minutes. We used 70% ethanol to...

Keggle dip tube + Paint strainer hop-sack + CFC help

I've searched and searched, read countless threads on this site and others, but I still can't get an answer to my question. Maybe I'm just retarded (it's a possibility). I use 100% pellet hops in a hop sack and a CFC. I've found answers for people that don't use the hop sack and from people...

    Gelatin is no joke!

No kidding I'm gonna have to check this one out. I almost did it two days ago when I racked to a keg to carb with priming sugar but I didn't do it. Darn.

    Double IPA Mash Temp?

I would listen to Jamil's show on IIPA's--lots of good info in there and he talks about mash temp, base grains, etc... I can't remember what temp he said to use maybe 148 or 150?. I do remember him saying that you want this thing to ferment out dry with little to no residual sweetness. He...

can you re-cap your carboy after racking and pitch onto it later?

Probably a better bet. Check out the yeast washing sticky and you'll be good to go.

Does anyone use 5 gallon buckets as primaries?

That is true. You will also lose the Krausen which according to Greg Noonan's book can cause off flavors. I have made fine beer when letting the Krausen fall back into the beer or letting it blow off.
