    Daisy-chaining CO2 manifolds

Daisy chain is a common term in Electronics. It was derived from real daisy chains or wreaths made of daisy flowers weaved together. It is also a sex move which I'm sure is why you find it amusing.

Aphrodisiac Ale recipe -- NEED Feedback!

2 quick things I see: 1# of aromatic is a bit much. I would keep it <5%. A little goes a long way with that malt. Maybe 1# of munich or even victory instead to give it a toasty malt note. And you only need 1 whirflock tablet. Many only use 1 in a 10 gallon batch. The hops look good, I'm a fan...

    High Pitching temperature

You will find out! It is not the best situation but you got it down pretty quick. During that initial period is when the yeast are reproducing the most, which is also when they have the tendency to throw of the most unwanted flavors. Next time wait to pitch. If your sanitation is good, I would...

    CO2 Tank size

I would go 5#. Most gas places I have been will just do an exchange and 4# is not standard.

Yeah, I know.... Another one... STC 1000 Question

I tape to the side of the carboy then tape a neoprene beer can koozie over the probe. 2 layers of neoprene is good insulation and they are a good size, and you can get them anywhere for free. I have to use them for something because I sure as hell ain't drinking straight from the can.

    Alt beer for a friend

I don't like that recipe. Altbier should be dry and substantial bitter. 3# of crystal and a mash temp of 158F will give you a super cloying beer that is way out of balance. Also whats up with the US 2-row? You should be using Pilsner. Altbier should have a smooth bready malt character and a...

    Beer Smith Help

Batch size is how much volume is in your kettle at flame out. If you lose volume in your kettle or CFC or hoses that is still wort, it just didn't make it to the fermenter. You have to account for all that because there are sugars and IBUs in the lost wort. The bigger problem is that 1.25...

    Thermoplastic or Silicone

Silicone baby! You can see though it and it is safe up to 500 degrees. Also if you are using camlocks you can use type "b" and stretch the silicone over the threads to get full flow. If you went with the stiffer thermoplastic you would be stuck using the type "c" which has a true I.D. closer to...

    fermintation problem or not?

Has it cooled down? During active fermentation the temp of the beer can be 5-10 degrees higher than ambient temps. Once it starts to slow down it will cool of if it is in a cool garage or something. This could have caused the yeast to drop out. It is good practice to make sure the yeast have...

    Building cam-lock hoses

I work for a hose and pipe distributor and we make hose assemblies all day. If it is an application where the hoses are going to be disconnected and moved around alot (like brewing) you always want to have the females on the hose. This way the sealing edge of the fitting or threads (not in this...

Chinook and Citra Pale Ale Recipe - First Time Recipe, Suggestions Needed!

I have never seen 60L Munich, are you sure you not going to use Cara Munich which is 60L. If that is the case I would not use that much crystal malt as your resulting beer could be too cloying. I would sub it for regular Munich(~10L) or dark Munich (~20L) for more malt character and some...

Is it a Joke or a riddle? Usually jokes have punchlines.

Official Recipe: Alpha God (Triple IPA)

I would doubt that you can get down to 1.010 with 2 pounds of crystal malt. The crystal malts and the sugar serve opposite purposes. I would think about that and eliminate some of each.

    Beer in Texas

Austin beer Works is the best in my oppinion. There pearl-snap Pils is Awesome. It is not your typical pilner, it is run through a hop back and heavily dry hopped. Crazy big hop aroma and flavor and super crisp. They also make a killer IPA (best in Texas) and a really good schwartzbier & XPA. I...

first time being nervous with brewing

If it is a gas range you are good to go. If it is electric, don't do it. I tried it and it broke. I now use and old pan on the electric burner (that doesn't sound right) and put my flask in that. It helps disperse the heat.

    Increase ABV of existing homebrew?

This is essentially what alot of people do when brewing big beers like triples. They let the yeast ferment out most of the maltose then add the simple sugar when they are approaching their final gravity. On the CYBI show where they cloned DFH 120 min IPA, the brewer let it ferment almost all...
