    How To: BrewPi LCD Add-On

Built the 3D case from Lee Bussy and it's BEAUTIFUL! Thanks to everyone that worked on this project. One question about powering the Arduino/shield: I have the power supply board specified in the project connected to the 5v pin on the shield and all works well. The question is, can I also...

Weight or PSI when pressing cheese

Both of the above equations are right. When using Area_2 / Area_1 as lump42 suggested, there is pi in the numerator and the denominator so they cancel. Using the square of the ratio of the radii eliminates the need to calculate the areas.

Weight or PSI when pressing cheese

In case others read this thread it should be pointed out that the area of a circle is the radius squared times 3.14 not pi times the diameter as mentioned by passedpawn. He inadvertently listed the circumference of a circle instead of the area. So the conversion in the above example should be...

Weight or PSI when pressing cheese

Thanks passedpawn. Exactly what I was looking for. In fact the recipe specifies an 8" press and I am using a 6" so a conversion will be necessary. The math I can handle, filling in the blanks in a recipe, not so much... Thanks again.

Weight or PSI when pressing cheese

My apologies for bothering you cheese pros with a newb question, but I can't seem to find good information on the web concerning the amount of weight to add to my press. Recipes state something like 8 pounds form1 hour. Does this really mean 8 PSI on the cheese? So for a 6" diameter mold...

    Exploding Thermometer

Could it have been a hairline crack in the glass? I could see that causing a stress fracture. Look into a digital thermometer like a Thermoworks. They have their top of the line Thermopen on sale this weekend. (Open box)...

    Yeast Starter Floculation

Here's something I've never seen before--the yeast in my starter has started to flock together. Usually this is a smooth solution where you cannot see the yeast. This is 1 vial of WLP-002 in 3 liters of wort. We are doing up 10 gallons of Deschutes Black Butts Porter on Sunday. Target OG 1.058...

Which whiskey or whisky is your big bottle

Four Roses 10 year is pretty fine, but Makers Mark is the staple. Nice on the rocks and isn't so expensive that it can't be used as a mixer.

I wish I had never bought...

Most everything I buy initially. I try to cut costs by buying a less expensive version only to replace it with what I should have bought the first time!

    lager starter temps

Some smart beer person (John Palmer, perhaps) once said: with a starter you are making yeast, not beer. We focus on an environment that favors yeast reproduction and don't worry about the byproducts that would otherwise affect our beer.

Different CO2 Volumes With One Regulator

If you are running 18 psi for the hefe, you'll need a longer tap line to prevent foaming.

Different CO2 Volumes With One Regulator

I would definitely go with multiple primaries. No worrying about differentials. I have a northern brewer CO2PO on one tank and a single on another. I run three lines into the kegerator and can split one when needed to run up to four kegs.
