    Brewzilla Gen4 Discussion/Tips Talk

I haven't messed with it, but the drain and pump are barb connections with 1/2" silicone*. I imagine you could swap to anything with a similarly sized barb. *Kegland used molded silicone elbows and offsets. Take note if rearranging.

Preorder available for Omega OYL-014 British VII aka Yorkshire/Timothy Taylor

Mine arrived. Excited to try it. Thanks, Bobby.

    Anvil foundry or propane?

Scorching extract happens because the thick extract sinks and sits on the heat source (including the bottom of the pot for propane). There are other tricks, like pre-mixing the extract with some hot water (or some wort) in another pot, if you don't want to cut heat. The goal is to get it fully...

    Anvil foundry or propane?

For a moment I thought you had a really amazing cumulative flow meter on your keg.

Candi Syrup - Is it real? - Does it matter?

I just finished the last high-O2 exposure bottle, but I wasn't taking notes. I'll cool down one of the better 2024 bottles (I number them as I fill) and do a side by side with the last of the 2023 batch in a few days.

Maybe he's got a 240 delta. Don't jump to conclusions.

    Anvil foundry or propane?

If you use propane in a garage, make sure you have a working CO alarm. I use a Brewzilla Gen 4 outside, and my only complaint is slow boil times. Anvil Foundry sounds good, too. Digiboil is missing some bells and whistles, but it's nice that you can get the base model now and upgrade later. It...

    Munich Dunkel Dunk!!!

https://www.brewingwithbriess.com/blog/wort-color-lovibond-and-srm/ AFAIK the two are used imprecisely and interchangably for grain. Morey is typically calculated with Lovibond malt color, so I wouldn't assume a conversion is needed. FWIW color contribution of dark roasts is nonlinear, so even...

Gravity Chillers with larger wort volume?

This is critical. You might get away with gravity to cool beer, but I can't think of a way to adequately clean any flow-through chiller without a pump.

    Munich Dunkel Dunk!!!

FWIW I got a pound of 3.3% AA mittelfruh (2023 harvest, bought last year) from Bobby. It says "hop alliance" on the label. I guess Michigan Hop Alliance dropped "Michigan"? It was slightly too lemony, IMO, but was good. Anyway, looks like the 2024 is also 3.3%, which I consider normal range for...

    I cannot force carbonate suddenly?

It'll do more than that. The reducto ad absurdem example is what if the keg was already at 30psi of N2? No CO2 would enter the keg, and you'd get no carbonation. A little harder to track is what happens if there's 29PSI N2? Then your regulator lets in 1psi of CO2 partial pressure to hit net...

    Brew day recovery stories

I had the silicone elbow for the return on my AIO get chewed through by a mouse. Pinhole. I filled it up the night before and noticed some drips under the gear. I got lucky I noticed and did not assume it was a spill. Moved the gear and checked again in a minute. Drained and found issue. I...

    Fermzilla 55litre

Has anyone used a standard bottling wand on a setup like this? I imagine it would work fine for a few PSI with clamps on the hose.

    I cannot force carbonate suddenly?

Is the keg filled so high there's very little surface area? CO2 diffusion rate depends on the surface area between gas and liquid. It sounds like it's not getting the pressure you think it is. How did you check that it was getting gas?

BrewHardware.com Big Game Giveaway (Deadline extended to 2/5)

All of Bobby's recipes that I've tried have been really well thought out and top notch ingredients. The big vendors tend to use whatever pale or pilsner is cheapest, and often limit other grains to some color and crystal, but Bobby's are the classic LHBS real deal.

    Warm Fermented Lager Thread

Don't confuse lack of significance for evidence of no difference. You'll notice most of their "insignificant" results are p<0.5. In the aggregate, they're missing positive results. Re S-189, it seems very similar to W-34/70 to me, but didn't seem to form as stable a yeast cake. But it's well...

    Munich Dunkel Dunk!!!

Landed here from Bongo's reference in the warm lager thread. What munich malt(s) to you prefer? 9SRM sounds like Weyermann 2? I've been going back and forth on all-Barke or a mix. Also, have you brewed it without the melanoidin? Do you find it significant?

Wine for the end of the world as we know it

You're getting in prison hooch territory. Be sure not to poison yourself! PS you are more likely to have grapes and barley than sugar if society collapses. There's a bunch of reasons why societies had tons of cereal grains and almost no sugar until the industrial revolution. Best to learn to...
