Kansas Temp Controller, Flashed w/ STC-1000+, Fahrenheit Display

I recently built several temp controllers using Alphaomega’s STC-1000+ firmware and built a few more than I need, so am selling the rest. These are built around the the popular STC-1000 and are ready to use, just plug in your fridge & heater, run the temp probe and plug it in! These have been...

    Aggressive fermentation

Nothing here seems out of the ordinary. You mashed relatively low (148/150) so I'd expect this beer finish out relatively dry with a lighter body. Don't keg prematurely or you'll prevent the yeast from cleaning up off flavors (it's fine to put it in the keg, but keep it at fermentation temps...

    stc-1000 sensor install? how? where?

I've done both: I started with a thermowell in the center of the carboy and couldn't keep the system from "ping-ponging" between heat & cool due to the time it took for temp changes to equalize to the center of the wort. I moved the sensor to the outside of the carboy (taped to the outside and...

    Rice hulls and high Ph

No, rice hulls, as far as I know, do not affect mash pH. I never factor them in when calculating my water adjustments and have not observed any unexpected pH variation when using them.

Attempting to clone Southern Tier's 2014 Farmer's Tan Session IPA

8lbs of carapils?? Hope that's a typo... you don't typically use carapils or any other dextrine malt for more than about 5% of the grain bill. I would consider subbing in some crystal as this is a "Pale Amber" beer so you may want some more color in there.

    OG lower than expected

Agree. You may want to get a few more successful 5 gal brews under your belt before you invest the time, money & effort in a 30 gal electric system. That's a big investment...

    Aging beer

Temp control is much more important during fermentation than it is during aging/storage. Generally speaking, colder is better than warmer when storing, but you're fine leaving your finished beer in a keg at room temp if you need the space in your chamber. Sent from my iPhone using Home Brew

Just wait and see, should still be a drinkable (however "light") beer :) Sent from my iPhone using Home Brew

    Aging beer

Agree that this is definitely a plus to kegging. I'd add, though, that you should hook your keg up to the CO2 immediately after filling and clear the headspace prior to aging to prevent oxidation. Sent from my iPhone using Home Brew

    OG lower than expected

Your efficiency was lower than the default 72%, which could be caused by any number of things. The first thing to check is your crush: is you mill adjusted properly? Also, in the future, you can measure the gravity of the wort post-boil, then add water to adjust down to target. If you had added...

    Easy first-time all-grain beers?

I'd recommend Ed Wort's Haus Pale Ale, it's a great beer and is simple to brew.

Right...so I'm still curious...why are people falling all over themselves to get these things when Stout has a very similar product for less, in stock? Sent from my iPhone using Home Brew

Chronical Fermenter by SS Brewing Technologies

Man I hate to rain on your parade here but if these things were built in the US they'd have that plastered all over their website. I'm not saying all products from China are bad, but these are not "welded by Americans". The leadtimes involved here are also a clue; when they suddenly have a few...

Chronical Fermenter by SS Brewing Technologies

The crazy demand for these things is surprising to me. Sure, these conicals are sweet, but are they that different from the Stout conicals that are (also) made in China and are (also) competitively priced? The Stout conical is cheaper and is available, but everyone would rather wait in line for...
