Using Crystal 60 instead of 40 or 80.

Thanks!! I was hoping I could just use 60L and avoid buying 40, 60 and 80.

Using Crystal 60 instead of 40 or 80.

I have been looking at the recipes I would like to brew soon and was wondering if I could use Crystal 60 and not 40 or 80. Of course I would need to adjust the amounts a little. I'm thinking 1 lb of 40 = 2/3 lb of 60 and 1 lb of 80 = 1 1/3lb of 60 Any thoughts.

    120v AC fan for stirplate

The light dimmer controls the voltage going to the light or in this case the fan. the fan needs a change in the frequency to change speed. You will need to find a controller for a motor. I believe a ceiling fan controller should work.

Bottle capper that doesn't "dimple" the cap

I also have that style capper, got it in the early 90's. the newer cappers don't dimple the bottles. I believe this is the capper you want if you want a wing capper. http://morebeer.com/view_product/15673//Bottle_Capper_-_Emily Or you could purchase a bench capper. Go to you LHBS and...

Are minikegs safe to sterilize in the oven?

Minikegs are made like a any beer can with a lining inside. They are Steel not aluminum like a 12oz can. I would not put them in the oven! I clean mine with PBW then store upside down in a sunny place for a while to help them dry before putting the dust cap back on and putting away for next time.

    Anybody Try RiteBrew Carboys?

I have buckets which are plastic and have no ribs, and I don't think they are weak at all. I think it depends on the thickness of the material. A couple of them are going on my Christmas list. :D

    Anybody Try RiteBrew Carboys?

I was surfing and found this carboy. I like the idea of no ribs due to me having yeast sit on the rib and fall into the beer when siphoning it, also it makes cleaning easier. Also the price seems to be a little cheaper than Better Bottles. Carboys Gregg

Cold Steep Grains - Crazy Efficiency?

Will the enzymes work in cold water? I thought the water needed to be at temp for the enzymes to be active.

Ever see a pot of boiling water give a reading of -55F? I have...

if you connect a T/C backwards it will read backwards. on most T/C's the red lead is the - lead. I would reverse the T/C leads and try the test again.

How can I make my lager clear?

The trick to making a lager and waiting for it to be done is to have plenty of beer in the house. I made my first lager this year. 4 weeks primary, 5 weeks secondary, 4 weeks in the bottle (IIRC). I'm going to try it this weekend. anyway I was able to keep from drinking it because I have a red...
