Would you buy used equipment if it was in good condition?

I am going to be just starting out. I have an opportunity to buy some used equipment that is supposed to be in really good shape. No scratches in the plastic parts and everything else seems to be clean and well taken care of. It will be significantly less than new stuff. It is basically a beginner Brewers Best kit.

Thanks in advance for your advice.

My rule of thumb is I don't buy used jockstraps or IV needles. Homebrew equipment, though, I say go for it, especially if it's stainless steel.

Seriuosly. though, a used kit would be fine, just make sure the price is right. Should not be any more than 40-60% new retail.

Why not

Just clean everything radically the first time in case the ex-owner didn't wash his stuff after brewing

I bought most of my kit off of craigslist, as long as you inspect everything and know how to properly inspect it, you should have more money left over to make beer! I would just watch out for used tubing, you never know what it was used for and some things will ruin the tubing without visible signs.

Thank you! I just wanted to make sure there were no likely bad experiences to come with buying used.

What I can't figure out is why anyone would sell beer brewing equipment?!!!!
