    So who's brewing this weekend?

Brewing a Cascade American Brown Ale and drinking an EKG Summer ESB! Couldn't be happier!

"You want beer with that?" Burger King and Sonic to start selling beer and wine.

If I ever, "ever", order a "San Mig Light" I want one of you to kick me in the nuts. Repeatedly. That said, some beer is better than no beer. Perhaps one day they'll have an SNPA or something else that's nice to wash down a crappy burger with.

    Help meee

Give it two to four weeks in the carboy then bottle. Do you have a hydrometer? You'll want to check the gravity before bottling to ensure that it's fermented out as far as you expected. The directions might list an expected final gravity (FG). It should look something like 1.012, though...

Do I "need" a 70 qt mash tun?

Brewed for a long time with a Coleman Extreme 70qt and really liked it. My friends still use it. Almost all 10 gallon batches. Compared to the keggle MLT with false bottom I'm using now, I really like that it drained out the side and you could get just about every last drop of runnings out of...

How cheaply/inexpensivly can you brew 5 gal

In all fairness you probably use three or four times that amount of water, counting cleaning for fermenters, bottles/kegs, etc. So make it a whopping $0.20!

    Warning signs of homebrew addiction

When you seriously attempt to convince your wife to name your newborn son "Porter" because it's one of your favorite styles. She didn't like the name, but my sister-in-law loved it, so there's still hope.

HBT in today's New York Times

Exactly what I was thinking. I would have liked a paragraph or three and some pictures of someone with a more ordinary rig. However, it's a positive article, so we'll take it. I was also glad to hear that the homebrew shops are doing so well. Also Sabco sells approximately 365 Brew...

Two questions in regard to Original Gravity

Use a wider hydrometer jar. It makes it easier to read. Use the thief to fill the jar. Read from the bottom of the meniscus. Spin the hydrometer and read it as it slows down. I really like the hydrometers with a thermometer in them. Let it sit for 5 or 10 minutes before reading so you have...

5 or 6.5 carboy for chocolate stout?

Oh, and that looks mighty tasty!

5 or 6.5 carboy for chocolate stout?

Blow off is always a wise idea.

my simple 4 keg outdoor set up

Way to class up the Rubbermaid bin! I think I have the same one that I'm using for swamp cooling two carboys at once.

    Kegging Questions

I found this link http://www.iancrockett.com/brewing/info/kegbalance.shtml very helpful just the other day when setting up my kegerator for the first time. Nailed the perfect pour as soon as the keg I'd carbed at high pressure evened out to the 10 psi serving pressure I'd selected.

    MD grain

Looks like I just missed the boat on the most recent buy. Is there anyone in the Baltimore/Annapolis area doing something similar to this? If not, I'd like to get in on the next iteration of this group buy. Thanks!

    Custom Refrigerated Bar

In retrospect a normal keezer, perhaps under some kind of finished nice looking bar surface would have been WAAAAY easier and considerably less expensive. The upsides of what I did are that it absolutely maximized the space I had available, allowing me probably at least 8 corney kegs. I...

    Custom Refrigerated Bar

Well a lot has happened since I last updated this thread! I finished the rest of the basement project, found out I'm having a third child and, just recently finally started brewing at my house (I had been brewing at a friend's the last several years). Actually having beer gave me the impetus...
