Two kegs in and I'm sold using syrups for variety rocks!

Has anyone used beer bottles for soda? I was thinking of making a full batch of Sprecher Rootbeer and bottling it all right away as apposed to having it sit in the keg. mainly for the convenience of not going to the basement bar to get one, but also thinking limited time in the keg may keep the...

    KPR121's 220v HERMS eBrewery Build

Subscribed... Your build looks to be almost exactly what I plan to do except I'm not doing herms. Two converted snakes for HLT and BK and a converted cooler for MLT. I plan on doing a single tier system with one march pump for now, and just use the quick release camlocks to change which vessel...

Two kegs in and I'm sold using syrups for variety rocks!

This thread rocks! Thanks for all the info and inspiration. I love sprecher root beer and it looks like their syrup is a strait 4 to 1 ratio. I'll be carbing up some water in the near future. Question: I know soda can impart flavors to the seals in the kegs, but does beer do the same thing...

    Agave nectar

Ok so I made the agave wheat. Totally over did it with the agave which lead to a high ABV, coming in at almost 8%. The beer itself tastes ok, except for the alcohol taste. I bottled a case to let age for a few months, and just added raspberries to the rest. I'm hoping the alcohol taste...

Why or how did you get into homebrewing?

My neighbor up north started home brewing and always hinted that I should try it. I put it off as I thought the whole thing was way too involved and intimidating. He ran with it and now has a successful Nanobrewery in northern WI. After talking quite a bit about it and watching him in the brew...

    Cloudy beer

I cold crash right in my primary. 3 weeks minimum in primary, then put the entire bucket right into my keezer for a day or two. Siphon high and work it slowly low to avoid pulling anything from the bottom. My beers come out very clear. I also use whirlfloc in the boil.

    Hydrometer readings for SG

Search YouTube for hydrometer videos by craigtube. He had hands down the easiest to understand explanation of not only how to use it, but also how it works and why.

    what's the best hot sauce?

Franks is a good go to hot sauce. I've moved away from the vinegar based and really love El Yucateco brand http://www.elyucateco.com/

Flow control for $50... Good deal?

Northern brewer posted these to their Facebook page. $50 seems like a pretty good deal for a flow control faucet. I did notice that they are chrome plated brass, not stainless steel. Good deal for the cost,or stay away? http://www.northernbrewer.com/shop/us-flow-control-faucet-forward-seal.html

    Bottle soaking station

Everyone has their way to soak used bottles... Mine was in 5 gallon home depot buckets, but emptying them out can be heavy. Given I had some spare plumbing parts laying around, this cost about $20. I used a 10 gallon garbage can and rather than make a bulkhead, the people at home depot showed...

    Good recipe storage places

According to the website, the android version is in development and should be out in a month.... As for beersmith recipes, I don't think there is a way to "import them" but you could simply create them by hand.

    Good recipe storage places

I use ibrewmaster on the iPad. Tracks everything, let's you create recipes in addition to hundreds already there, and is supported by Northern Brewer so a lot of their recipes and kits are in there. It is great for using the timers while brewing as it shows time remaining broken down to every...

How long should i let it sit?

So no need to go longer, given the higher alcohol?

How long should i let it sit?

Recently brewed an agave wheat that started at 1.072 and should finish at 7.07%. I usually let the wheat beer this is based on sit in the primary 3-4 weeks before kegging and it turns out great. My impression is that the higher the gravity, the longer it needs to age. Any thoughts on how...

    High temp tubing... Which kind?

I'm working on assembling what I need for my transition to AG. My question is which is better... High temp silicone or thermoplastic? Neither are particularly cheap. My LHBS (northern brewer) only has the thermoplastic and my other goto for ordering (Midwest) wants $3 per foot for silicone...

You guys told me to buy one..now what?

I used a wine thief to snag my sample. No need for a second container. Just float my hydrometer right in the thief. I filed with water first and marked how high I need to fill it. Turkey baster is a good item but I would buy one just for brewing and like everything else it's got to be super...
