Son of a.....leak in the Keezer!!

Opened my keezer today and noticed a good 1/4" to 1/2" puddle on the bottom. Not good. Had some soggy 12 packs sitting down there. Here's what it looked like when I took everything out: It smelled a little like beer, but also had this really strong, almost fruit punch-like aroma. Is...

Observations & Questions from First BIAB Session

Didn't top off. 5 gallons was what was left after the full volume boil. Like the idea of adding water to dilute. This beer is supposed to be on the lighter side. Another all grain question for folks out there - especially BIAB brewers. Here's a picture from my session yesterday. And this...

Observations & Questions from First BIAB Session

Here's the Strike Temp Calculator I used. No idea how good/accurate it is... http://www.rackers.org/calcs.shtml

Observations & Questions from First BIAB Session

Hey all. Excited to be making the move to all grain, and decided to keep things simple for my first few tries. So Brew In A Bag seemed like the way to go for me. Brewed Northern Brewer's Cream Ale: - 7 lbs. Rahr 2-Row Pale - 0.75 lbs. Gambrinus Honey Malt - 0.25 lbs. Belgian Biscuit...

Dramatically improve your Stir Starter stir plate

I didn't but the fix was pretty easy. I took a thin (1/4") piece of plywood and traced the outside profile of the stir plate on it. I cut that out and then cut out a smaller rectangle inside this piece of plywood. Then you mark the screw holes from the stir plate cover on the plywood. Then...

    12 point keg post

Getting ready to fill my first keg so I'm starting deconstruction, cleaning and replacement of the O-rings. This keg has a 12 point gas post. Is it normal for the gas tube to be attached to this kind of post? I've been reading up on cleaning kegs and have seen recommendations that you take...

My Kenmore 8.8cf coffin keezer build

Hey Marc. Any updates? Yours is the exact same freezer I'm about to buy so I'm looking for some inspiration. Love the sketches.

    Thermowell Help

I ended taping it down with some electrical tape. Not the most elegant solution but it stayed in place. Williams Brewing is sending me a replacement. They said it's possible I got the wrong size. Revvy, I do not have this issue with my regular rubber stopper, even when wet. Always stays in...

Dramatically improve your Stir Starter stir plate

I did this mod too and now I'm having the same issue others have reported. Stirplate sounds louder now - because the magnets are scraping the inside of the top cover. The motor runs for a bit and then stops. Can anyone share pics/notes about how they raised the cover? Thanks!

    Thermowell Help

Anyone use the Carboy Cap Thermowell in their wort? THERMOWELL FOR GLASS CARBOYS @ Williams Brewing Picked this up a few weeks ago and tried it on my latest batch (Douple IPA) in a glass carboy. Only problem was, as much as I kept trying to seat in in the carboy it would keep popping out...

    BIAB with Blichmann Boilermaker

UPDATE: Noticed in my last batch that the Brewmometer was WAAAY off. Tried turning the adjustment screw to get the temp right (matched against a Taylor digital). Couldn't lock in an accurate measurement across the temp spectrum so I emailed Blichmann and they suggested flexing the knuckle a...

    Starter eruption

Pitched last night. Happily fermenting 12 hours later. This kit called for an ounce of mulling spices at the end of the boil and wow did that smell fantastic when mixed into the wort. Although something from that mix clogged the spigot on my brew kettle.

    Starter eruption

OK quick vote. Should I pitch this starter or not? Things that concern me: - Tried adding the DME after the water was heated. Caked pretty bad and didn't get it all in. - Not sure I did a great job with initial aeration - My first attempt at swirling resulted in the eruption, so I lost...

    Starter eruption

Thanks. Thought I had the right foam stopper, but it doesn't appear like the pressure (CO2) was being released. Sounds like foil is the better idea. I don't have a stir plate so I plan on swirling every so often for my next few starters. Thanks for the Mr. Malty reference. Any thoughts...

    Starter eruption

Prepping to brew the NB Spiced Winter Ale. Made my first starter last night with the Wyeast Scottish Ale 1728. Interesting to see the different prep methods out there. Some mix the DME and water and then boil. Some boil the water then add the DME. I tried the latter, which sucked because...

    OG Rising?

Ah, those pesky bubbles... Well, that was easy. And makes sense so those last two numbers were so close. Thanks!

    OG Rising?

Just bottled the Northern Brewer Smashing Pumpkin tonight. OG was 60, when I moved to secondary (after 2 weeks) it was 16. Final gravity at bottling tonight (after 4 weeks in secondary) was 18. Is it possible to move back up the hydrometer like that? And what does that mean?

    BIAB with Blichmann Boilermaker

Hmmm. Hate the thought of having to pull the probe. Really enjoyed that integrated temp gauge during my first brew. I suppose this is one way Blichmann gets folks to pony up for a second boilermaker to use for mashing. Smart.

    BIAB with Blichmann Boilermaker

Nice. Can you shoot me a link to the bag you picked up? I was planning on getting a regular paint strainer bag that most folks seem to use. And that seems to stretch to the edges of the boilermaker. So I expected there would be some snagging with that.

    BIAB with Blichmann Boilermaker

Anyone figure out a creative way to do BIAB with a Blichmann Boilermaker. I'm guessing the temp probe would pretty much destroy the bag. Enjoyed this thread. But noticed the brewer is using a Boilermaker without a temperature gauge and probe.
