    No oxygen dry hopping

Yakima Chief got back to an email I sent them regarding keeping hops at room temperature and according to them: “We recommend storing hops and hop pellets at 30-41f, but it is okay to put into freezer conditions as well. Oil and hop acid degradation is a spontaneous process which means that...

The thing I have a problem with is that your pressurizing a glass jar not rated for pressure. It has been pointed out to me that the lid ring will pop off first before the glass breaks (between 12-15 psi)....as tested by a fellow home brewer. But I’m not comfortable with that. It also takes...

Crush the hops while their still in the bag or put them in a bag and crush them. Use a hammer and turn them into powder...this may prevent them from binding up.

He’s not spunding. He’s finishing primary fermentation...conditioning...and then krausening to carbonate. I believe his response was how he determines the final product is done carbonating. Which he says he bases it on the beer he krausened from. When it’s done the beer he’s carbonating is...

So no testing? Either with hydrometer or checking pressure against temperature on a carbonation chart?

New England IPA "Northeast" style IPA

I’ve gone back and forth with bagging and not bagging...many times. You can get the same aroma and flavor. One trick I learned from couchsending is before taking your dry hops out of the packaging or the vacuum sealed bag you stored them in...crush them. I use a hammer and a couple paper...

Sorry didn’t see this fermonster statement before making my last post. You could rig up some sort of bag hanger for that also...and use a pretty big bag for them to swim around. There is really nothing like a clog during transfer to really p*** yourself off...it makes for a great day.

New England IPA "Northeast" style IPA

A bag works fine. Don’t listen to anyone who says not to. Just make sure it’s big enough to let the hops swim around...and give the keg a good shake a couple times a day. Get a keg lid with a tab underneath and use butchers twine...boil it first of course. This ensures the bag is secure...

These are nice to get. Along with a 1/4” weldless set up which they also sell. Then you can put a gas post on and you can use a quick disconnect. https://www.brewhardware.com/product_p/npt14tokegpost.htm

English yeasts and the miracle ester sweet spot of generation nr X

Good research. Will you knowingly underpitch now? And are the flavors/aromas from those 4th/5th generations amplified versions of the healthy versions esters or different esters?

    No oxygen dry hopping

Your pressurizing your dry hop tube at 18psi for X amount of times....connected to but closed off from the fermenter by a valve. Then your relying on the co2 in headspace of the fermenter to further purge the dry hop tube once you open the valve?

    No oxygen dry hopping

The way I understand it in relation to the article referenced, “headspace” is the entire volume that is not taken up by some other mass...be it liquid or solid. So if a keg is empty....that entire volume is “headspace”. So the purge cycles and pressure needed to clear a vessel of o2 stays...

    No oxygen dry hopping

No problem I’ve read it a couple times and think i get it. What PSI and how many times? What I’m struggling with is the fact that it takes I think 10-12 purge/vent cycles to completely eliminate almost all o2 from any size vessel. This is according to purge chart that’s floating around on the...

    No oxygen dry hopping

Any easy thing I can do to limit any destruction on my end is worth the effort. No need to worry about what I can’t control. A few years ago people had a hard time thinking o2 caused such drastic changes to their homebrewed beer. Now there are many threads/articles on reducing o2 in every...

    No oxygen dry hopping

Some of the online stores actually do keep them in purged sealed bags and at freezing temps. I always pay for an ice pack for shipment. My local store keeps a lot of hops in open bags with rubber bands around them on the counter. I don’t buy those and ask for sealed bags which they keep in a...
