    WLP002

Yeah, that makes sense... The last stalled batch I had, I decided to make a small starter and pitched it when it hit high krausen. This way the yeast were active and they made quick work of the remaining fermentable sugars in that batch of beer. I knew better with this current batch... I knew...

    WLP002

Oh, the tilt is sending a reading. As a matter of fact, it looks like the beer is dropping 1 point every 24-36 hours, so I might just let that ride out until it flattens for a few days.

    WLP002

Curious... I pitched that 1968 into 1.027 wort and almost nothing happened (2 point drop). I pitched the US-05 into 1.025 wort and it's looking like I'm getting the same result...maybe 1 to 2 point drop. Because the wort's gravity isn't that high in sugar, are the yeast just refusing to get...

    WLP002

Well, looks like I wasted a pack of yeast... I pitched WYeast 1968 into 1.027 wort, dropped the temp back down to 68F and it basically just floc'd out immediately. My Tilt has been reading 1.025 for the past 18 hours. I'm going to just let it ride for a bit. Unfortunately it's still just a...

    WLP002

~17 hours after pitching and it's still holding at 1.026... gosh, I hope it didn't just drop to the bottom immediately...

    WLP002

Yeah -- this batch is stalled for sure. Zero movement. Just pitched some 1968 to hopefully finish this batch off. Lesson learned -- this strain needs to be overpitched.

    WLP002

LHBS just confirmed they have some 1968 in stock. I think it's worth swinging by and grabbing a pack to finish out this batch. After 2 years of making starters, I think this was a really bad strain to skip on. I'll keep that in mind next time.

    WLP002

The weird thing is, I've brewed this same recipe with this WLP002 in the past and never had it stall so soon. As a matter of fact, the last time I brewed it, it looks like I pulled almost 80% attenuation (which sounds way too high for WLP002). But the last time I brewed it, I made a starter...

Here's the reciepe: http://brewgr.com/recipe/34488/robust-coffee-porter-recipe?public=true I mashed 153F for 60 mins and then fly sparged for about 45-60 mins (longest sparge I've been able to accomplish with my new system).

    New Anvil Bucket Fermentors

Wow! I love what you did! Honestly...looking back on it, if I could rewind and do this all over, I'd probably go the route you took. Buying that pull through tool was super pricey, and I think I got a little aggressive with the heat on the lid and I think I may have very slightly warped the...

    New Anvil Bucket Fermentors

It really wasn't that expensive. The hole is the exact size you need for a 1.5" TC ferrule. https://www.brewhardware.com/product_p/ptbulkhead_tool15tc.htm $30 for the tool https://www.brewhardware.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=silversolder $15 for the silver solder kit...

    WLP002

I heard White Labs had some issues with WLP002 recently and stock was in short supply for the past few months. I finally got my hands on some and pitched it into a recent batch last week Saturday. But first, a little background: I ferment in a stainless steel Anvil bucket fermentor My...

    Scorched Element

Hang on...are you recommending I intentionally dry fire my element and then spray it off? ...that’s what got me into this mess in the first place.

    NEIPA Stalled at ~1.025

Yep — that’s my target FG.

    NEIPA Stalled at ~1.025

UPDATE: I got antsy and tossed the small sample of yeast I had saved for my next batch into a 0.5L starter. It took off after 30 mins (probably the fastest start I've ever seen), let it ferment overnight and this morning with a full head of kraussen and actively fermenting, I pitched it into...

    Scorched Element

Can you send me a link to said float switch? I took a stainless steel scrubber and some bar keepers friend and was able to clean a large majority of the discolored stuff off. There's only still a few spots and some slight discoloration, but definitely better. I guess I'll give it another...

    NEIPA Stalled at ~1.025

Recipe: http://brewgr.com/recipe/55599/spray-tan-neipa-recipe?public=true Using WYeast 1318. Package date was early July. I made a 2L started on Aug 26th, decanted and saved a few ounces for a future batch, and pitched the rest after brewday on Aug 31. OG was 1.060, and I did my normal...

    Scorched Element

Well, it happened. Stupid mistake... I was heating up some spare water to use during cleaning and went to pump it over to my BK. I forgot to turn off the element. I smelled burning...realized what I did... flipped the switch... and then glanced down at my glowing cherry red element in my...
