Welcome to the forum and cheers to your Dad on Fathers Day.. I got started the same way, got a homebrewing kit for Fathers Day a few years ago, bet alot of guys got started in this hobby (obsession ) that way.

Like quite a few others here I started with a Mr.Beer kit, I got mine as Father's Day gift a few years back, eventually moved to 5 gal batches. I spend most of my free time browsing this forum I think, my wife refers to it as a "virtual bar".

It's fine, leave it alone for 2 weeks, start drinking some craft beer, you'll need 48 or so bottles in a few weeks.

I put a sanitized muslim bag on the autosyphon to filter the hops and trub out during the transfer to the bottling bucket.

Jealous..we live in a condo (2nd / 3rd floor) an all we are allowed on the desk is an electric grill.

I basically have the same setup as you do, but I have the 2nd bucket in the container, i have cold water in the bottom along with a few blocks of ice

Brewed it last summer and everyone who tried it loved it.

Patersbier - loved it Extra Pale Ale - brewed it twice, dry hopped both times, came out great. Innkeeper - Brewed it this past weekend. Edit: The Honey Kolsch was very good also, everyone liked it.
