    Exploring "no chill" brewing

Noisy123, please let us know how these work out for you. I "no-chilled" in a bucket on my recent Sierra Torpedo IPA clone, but I think I'd like to have something like this for "no-chilling".

This is a 4 Gallon batch. The temp readings are ambient air temp. in my 1/2 Bath/FermentationChamber/Man Reading Room upstairs in our home.

S-05 SN Torpedo clone Under attenuated or reasonable

Yeast was Safale S-05 which, it certainly seems, should get me over 75% right?

S-05 SN Torpedo clone Under attenuated or reasonable

Yeah, I did calibrate my thermometer when I mashed. So I'm pretty confident that my mash temp. was actually 154 deg. F. Given I guess I'll move the fermentor to a warmer spot and swirl the bucket to rouse the yeast. Thanks a bunch. Best, Dave

S-05 SN Torpedo clone Under attenuated or reasonable

So, to dry hop my SN Torpedo IPA clone I opened the bucket and grabbed a gravity sample. This beer started at 1.086 and after two weeks is now at 1.028. This calculates to an apparent attenuation of 65.8%. I dropped in a 1/2 oz. each of Cascade and Nugget whole hops and will leave it for a...

SN Torpedo clone...OG High what to expect?

So for my first all grain batch I decided to go with the BYO SN Torpedo IPA clone recipe that is floating around these boards. For my countertop system I built and 4 gallon batch size I calculated I needed 11.2 lbs of pale malt (14lb/5G*4G=11.2lb). OG was supposed to come out around 1.070...

Suggestions for Organic Whole Leaf Nugget and Magnum

Just got a sweet deal on organic whole leaf hops at "PieTree Orchard" in Sweden, ME. Kind lady (Stephen King's sister in law maybe?) set me up with 20oz. of Magum and Nugget. SWEET! Or rather "BITTER"! I've really only brewed with pellets and mostly low alpha Goldings and Fuggles for my Brit...

Wicked Special Bitter Pale Malt swap???

I thought it would be a fun test to brew my "Victory at Sea-Wicked Special Bitter" and for a comparison swap the Pearl Pale malt for another English style like Marris Otter or Golden Promise. The only pale base malt my LHBS in Gray, Maine stocks is the Thomas Fawcett Pearl. The LHBS in...

    "Bayou Classic" Mash/Lauter tun?

Bayou Classic 32 Quart Tamale Pot I'm getting ready to pull the trigger on an all grain setup and I was wondering about using the aluminum "Bayou Classic" from the OutdoorCooking equipment site. A fella could install a bulkhead fitting and ball valve below the "steamer" plate. Fit a piece...

FAQ: Aluminum Pots for Boil Kettles?

Bayou Classic 32 Quart Tamale Pot I was wondering about using the aluminum "Bayou Classic" from the OutdoorCooking equipment site. A fella could install a bulkhead fitting and ball valve below the "steamer" plate. Fit a piece of stainless screen or other mesh over the plate and use as a...
