Vent Hood Build: Questions and Feedback

Hey All, Since moving to electric, I am now brewing inside. Its supposed to hit 95 F by this Saturday and thats pretty toasty with this humidity. Opposite side of the spectrum winters at its coldest get to -10 F some nights. So far brewing inside this summer, the wort smell SWMBO very much...

2250watt element tripping 20 amp breaker

Testing going great! Holding 152F well. Added two wraps of reflectix for insulation. Cold water at 50F degrees up to 152F in about 28 minutes. 4 gallons. Only problem now is having a slight leak on the weldless fitting for the heating element but not too bad. A quick tightening should be just...

2250watt element tripping 20 amp breaker

No PID. Didn't want to put that much automation in at this time. Goal was to ditch propane and go to electric cheaply and effectively as possible. This a voltage regulator, and changing the resistance to the triac inside uses a method called phase angle modulation to vary the power output...

2250watt element tripping 20 amp breaker

Jbrew, As promised here is my setup just finished building, same element you have, 120V. I have a 20A 12AWG circuit with a 20A GFCI installed. In retrospect I should have gone with an 8x8x4 box instead of the 6x6x4. I have a 33CFM fan that draws hot air out the top, and brings incoming cooler...

Make sure those crip connections are solid!

2250watt element tripping 20 amp breaker

Give me till this weekend and I can report back to you. Got all my parts delivered and some assembly required lol.

2250watt element tripping 20 amp breaker

Exactly. Copper conductor (not aluminum) 12AWG thats type TW or UF is rated up to 60C and 20A before the insulation goes beyond its rated temp, then is at risk for failing. Most HD or Lowes romex you buy like 12/3 is UF rated. Thats what I have. Southwire 25 ft. 12/3 Gray Solid CU UF-B W/G...

2250watt element tripping 20 amp breaker

You would have to check the type of 12AWG wire installed. It should have the letter code on the insulation jacket. Most common is the 60C variety. Anything higher is actually better.

2250watt element tripping 20 amp breaker

Agreed. Even the Push To Reset Thermal breakers like what you find in generators are only rated 80% continuous. And something like 120% rating for 15 minutes or something like that. Ill be doing a video on my E-Extract setup soon. Same 2250 element. 40A SSVR with dial pot, 3 pole B-B-M type...

2250watt element tripping 20 amp breaker

I got the same triclamp element, and will be doing testing soon in the next few days for my small E-Extract system. IMO there is no need to put a fuse in your control panel. The CB in your breaker panel and a proper gfci plug or breaker is adequate. I have a 25A switch that I can ise to...

One way valves on gas lines?

Interesting indeed! The only part I don't like about it is that it's $15 a valve plus shipping, not serviceable, or spare parts available.

One way valves on gas lines?

I have check valves on all my gas manifolds. Doesnt prevent beer from backing up through the gas lines though. If the gas dip tube is in the beer it will back up a bit, keep the gas lines above the post will keep the backup to a min

    Re-circulation Fitting Through Lid

Hey everyone, I was going to use the aerator below, but I'd like to see some ideas of already existing methods of how this was done. Pictures?? I'm building a 5 gal small batch 120V electric setup, specifically for extract/partial grain brewing. I have an existing 30 quart pot, and plan to...

    Northwestern CT 22.3cu/ft Keezer Build

1/4" to 1/8" NPT reducer for the switch, and a 1/4" NPT. I used I THINK 5/8" barb to 1/4" MNPT. I'd have to look.

    Northwestern CT 22.3cu/ft Keezer Build

Hello all, I've made a few updates since completing my build. I put LED lights that change color when you use the glass rinser. Originally I did this on my jockey box build and liked it so much that I did it to the keezer as well.

    Cheapest path to electric

Okay, so I found that the Still Dragon kit is priced appropriately, but shipping from FL is bad, almost $17 bucks with UPS to send to CT. No USPS option. I can get all the parts from amazon instead...

    Cheapest path to electric

No, but it can vary the duty cycle of the PWM of 12 volts to the SSR which in turn controls the element output better. He was suggesting such a setup as superior to the dial/SSVR of the diy kit. Dianne @ Still Dragon said the SSVR in their kit wont work with 120VAC unless i get a new dial pot...

    Cheapest path to electric

For the 30 quart, 5 gallon batch sizes tops. Most receipes I boil 3.5 to 4 gallons and add water to make 5 gallons. Is 2250 watts too much or should i go with the 1650 watt? Long as I have more than enough power getting this controller I can dial it back with the DIY kit.
